Quién me iba a decir a mí que, por fin, iba a disfrutar de la Navidad como un crio de 5 años. Yo, que siempre había renegado del espíritu navideño y que huía de los alumbrados en las calles como el Conde Dracula del ajo, este año pienso hacerme un acelerado master de Navidad . Pienso ir a todas las fiestas que pueda, a todos los mercadillos que encuentre, ver los belenes y los millones de luces que ha puesto el Ayuntamiento por todo Madrid...y así, hasta el infinito.
Y es que después de dos años de restricciones pandémicas, mascarillas a tutiplén, barrios perimetrados, gente asustada etc, he decidido vivir esta Navidad como si fuera la última (por si acaso)
He empezado poco a poco y me ido a ver el fantástico árboll que han instalado en la flamantemente reinaugurada Plaza de España. Es fantástico. Se trata de un imponente abeto de 18 metros de altitud, 1,5 toneladas de peso con más de 800 bolas de decoración e iluminado por 27.000 puntos de luz.
Por fin tenemos nuestro gran abeto a lo "Rockefeller Center".
I would never have thought that, finally, I was going to enjoy Christmas like a 5 year old kid. After all I had always rejected about Christmas spirit and fled from Christmas lighting like Count Dracula from garlic, this year I am going to do an intensive Christmas master's course. I am planning to go to all the parties I can, to all the flea markets I may find, to see the nativity scenes and the millions of lights that the City Council has placed all over Madrid...and so on, ad infinitum.
And this because after two years of pandemic restrictions, masks everywhere, restricted neighborhoods, frightened people, etc., I have decided to live this Christmas as if it were the last one (just in case).
I started slowly and went to see the fantastic tree that they have installed in the newly reopened Plaza de España. It is fantastic. It is an imposing fir tree of 18 meters high, 1.5 tons of weight with more than 800 decorative balls and illuminated by 27,000 points of light.
Finally we have our big "Rockefeller Center" fir tree.
Este Abies Nordmanniana —especie originaria de Georgia, en el Cáucaso— ha llegado a Madrid desde la provincia de Girona y, dice el Ayuntamiento, cuenta con la máxima certificación MPS Sustainable Quality, asociación internacional que controla el cultivo vegetal en más de 55 países de todo el mundo. Esto quiere decir que este abeto ha sido cultivado en el respeto de todos los métodos exigidos por las autoridades en cuanto a sostenibilidad y medioambiente.
Para nuestra tranquilidad hay que recalcar que los estándares de la certificación MPS son muy altos y se basan en el análisis de los puntos clave de la producción: agua, productos fitosanitarios, energía, fertilizantes y gestión de residuos.
La empresa suministradora, experta en este tipo de árboles, planta más de 50.000 ejemplares cada año bajo un estricto control de las autoridades competentes.
¿Y cómo será el final de este maravilloso abeto? Pues una vez acabadas las fiestas navideñas será talado para convertirlo en madera.
This Abies Nordmanniana - a species native from Georgia, in the Caucasus - was brought to Madrid from the province of Girona and, the City Council says, has the highest MPS Sustainable Quality certification, an international association that monitors plant cultivation in more than 55 countries around the world. This means that this fir tree has been grown respecting all the methods required by the authorities in terms of sustainability and environment.
It is important to emphasize that MPS certification standards are very high and are based on the analysis of the key points of production: water, phytosanitary products, energy, fertilizers and waste management.
The supplying company, an expert in this type of tree, plants more than 50,000 specimens each year under strict control of the competent authorities.
And what will be the end of this wonderful fir tree? Well, once the Christmas holidays are over, it will be cut down to be turned into hardwood.
Supongo que, como nunca llueve a gusto de todos, a algunos esto del abeto les parecerá una aberración ecológica y a otros no.
Yo (que este año como os he dicho tengo a tope mi espíritu navideño) pienso sólo en lo positivo y me quedo con lo bonito que queda el árbol en pleno centro de Madrid.
Además, el Ayuntamiento dice que todas las luces que nos ha puesto en las calles son de máxima eficiencia energética y poco contaminantes (no sé si la lumínica cuenta o no).
Vamos que este año me voy a hacer hasta un Urban Safari nocturno en Tuk Tuk para ver las luces de Navidad (spoiler, el conductor va con traje de Papa Noel y toda la parafernalia).
Hala, comienza la Navidad.
I suppose that, since it never rains to everyone's liking, some will find this fir tree an ecological aberration and others will not.
Because os this year as I said I have my Christmas spirit to the fullest I think only about positive things and I keep with how beautiful the tree looks in the center of Madrid.
In addition, the City Council says that all the lights that they have put in the streets are of maximum energy efficiency and low pollutants (I do not know if the luminous one counts or not).
This year I'm even going to do a night Urban Safari in Tuk Tuk to see the Christmas lights (spoiler, the driver is wearing a Santa Claus costume and all the stuff).
So, Christmas season has started.
