Ya sé que suena pretencioso pero,es verdad, siempre quise ser Dalí. Por eso cuando fui a su impresionante Museo y luego visité su casa me sentí chiquitito chiquitito y casi no supe reaccionar. Estaba abrumado por todo lo que estaba viendo y, sobre todo, sintiendo. Fue un sueño hecho realidad que, no sé muy bien porqué, lo había demorado tanto.
De adolescente cuando todos tenían posters de cantantes, actores o de famosos colgados en la pared , yo tenía a Dalí. Podía pasarme horas y horas analizando minuciosamente todos los detalles de sus cuadros, intentando meterme en sus pensamientos para dar con el mensaje que él quería transmitir. Yo veía una cosa y, seguramente, el maestro Dalí otra completamente distinta. Me encantaban sus mundos oníricos, su forma de utilizar el color, su ambigüedad, sus formas, su osadía, sus excentricidades...todo.
Es por eso que me pasé toda la visita en su museo de Figueres en Girona con gafas de sol, porque me deslumbraba toda la maravilla que estaba viendo y porque, seguramente, él también lo habría hecho ( o al menos eso pienso yo).
I know it sounds pretentious but it's true ,I always wanted to be Dalí. So when I went to his impressive Museum and then visited his house I felt very tiny and did not know how to react. I was overwhelmed by what I was seeing and, of course, feeling. It was a dream come true that I'm not sure why, it had taken so long to become real.
During my teen when alley friends had posters of singers and actors hanging on the wall, I had Dalí. I could spend hours dissecting every detail of his paintings, trying to get into his thoughts to figure out the message he wanted to convey. I saw for sure one thing and the master Dalí quite another. I loved his dream worlds, how he used color, his ambiguity, his forms, his daring, his eccentricities ... everything.
That's why I spent the whole visit with sunglasses, because I was dazzled by all the wonder I was seeing and because surely he too would have done (or so I think).
En el mundo de Dalí todo tiene un significado completamente diferente a lo normal; por ejemplo, la mantis religiosa para él simboliza el miedo porque una mantis es una mujer fatal. una hembra se come al macho después de copular con el.
Las obras de Dalí están llenas de huevos; un huevo es duro por fuera y blando por dentro como la madre y el bebé que está esperando por eso el huevo es símbolo de fertilidad y amor. Las hormigas representa muerte para el artista porque de pequeño vio como cientos de hormigas devoraban un pequeño animal muerto y sólo dejaron el caparazón. Y así podría seguir hasta el infinito hasta llegar a mi favorito: las piernas, símbolo para Dalí de fuerza y de futuro.
Dalí’s art drew from his everyday life and extracted seemingly arbitrary things such as infinite desert plains, marble statues, bicycles or telephones and used them as icons where through their isolation they became symbols for deeper emotional themes. Dalí explored his own fears and fantasies through these symbolic images captured in various mediums.
For example the swarming ants in Dalí’s pictures and sculptures are references to death and decay, and are reminders of human mortality and impermanence.The famous melting clocks represent the omnipresence of time, and identify its mastery over human beings. The egg is another favourite Dalinian motif, given the duality of its hard exterior and soft interior. Dalí links the egg to pre-natal images and the intra-uterine universe, and thus it is a symbol of both hope and love. And my favorite: the legs, symbol os stretch and future.
Su musa era su mujer, Gala. Una unión singular que no se rompió hasta la muerte. 50 años estuvieron juntos. Para ella fueron sus mejores obras. He leído mucho sobre la relación entre Dalí y Gala y siempre llego a la misma conclusión: eran como el agua y el aceite, ni contigo ni sin ti, pero sobre todo se amaban y se respetaban mutuamente.
En casi todas las obras en la que aparece Gala están todas sus obsesiones y símbolos: los caracoles, los relojes, los huevos, las piernas, los elefantes, los cajones. En definitiva, sin ella no tendríamos a Dalí.
Gala, wife of Paul Eluard and lover of Maw Ernst, fell headlong in love with Dali when she met him in 1929 in Paris. It was love at first sight for both of them and they married in 1932.
Gala became the painter’s only female model and his main subject. Throughout his career Dali would continue to magnify his wife and to raise her to the rank of modern icon. He polished Gala to make her shine, to make her as happy as possible, he took care of her better than himself, because without her it was all over.
Meanwhile, Gala organized exhibitions of her husband’s work and sold his paintings. It was she who made the couple’s fortune and allowed them to have an ever more comfortable life.
La casa de Dalí no está en Figueres sino en un pequeño pueblecito costero llamado Portlligat, en Girona. Era una antigua barraca de pescadores y allí se instalaron en 1930 hasta poco antes de su muerte en 1982. La casa, como no podía ser de otra forma, es rara. Es como un laberinto sin aparente orden, una “verdadera estructura biológica” como el propio Dalí la definía ya que estuvieron construyéndola y añadiendo estancias durante 40 años. Nada más entrar te recibe una osa y un halcón disecado. Todo lo que se ve aquí son los mundos de Gala y Dalí, a veces separados a veces juntos, pero siempre únicos y maravillosos.
Along the Costa Brava in northern Spain, in the little seaside village of Portlligat, sits the house that became Salvador Dalí’s main residence in 1930. It started off as a small fisherman’s hut. Then Dalí went to work on the structure, renovating it little by little over the next 40 years, creating a living, breathing, labyrinthine home that reflects the artist’s one-of-a-kind aesthetic.
Dalí’s house is completely unexpected…. It contains nothing more than memories, obsessions. The fixed ideas of its owners. There is nothing traditional, nor inherited, nor repeated, nor copied here. All is indecipherable personal mythology
Este que veis es el estudio de Dalí. Aquí están sus cosas. Sus pinturas, sus pinceles, sus botes, una mascaras, gafas en tres dimensiones, estatuas con redes de esgrima, retratos de Stalin, de Felipe II, grabadoras y hasta un ukelele; en fin una estancia cargada de energías positivas con ventanas de diferentes formas y dimensiones pero con un denominador común: enmarcan a la bahía de Portlligat, un paraje que es un tema constante en la obra de Dalí.
This is the studio with big adjacent windows framing dramatic views of hills and sea. A specially constructed easel was installed, with an ingenious pulley system to enable large paintings to be hoisted to the required height for the painter. Rising from the studio is a beautifully curved staircase shaded by a vast Japanese parasol, and accommodating a myriad objects of inspiration. Copies of favourite paintings include Millet’s Angelus and Velasquez’ portrait of Philip II. Other people’s moustaches were a particular Dalí obsession, and include Velasquez, Stalin and the Mona Lisa.
Bueno, he tardado pero al final he hecho realidad uno de los sueños de mi vida. Qué lejos queda ya aquel chaval tumbado en su cama escrutando las obras de Dalí como si fueran pistas de un cluedo. En esa época quería ser Dalí, ahora me encanta ser YO MISMO.
Well, I took my time but finally I did it. I made real one of my dreams. How far is this kid is lying on his bed scrutinizing Dali's works as if they were tracks of a cluedo. At that time I wanted to be Dalí, now I LOVE BEING MYSELF
