Si estas alturas de la película vas muy retrasado en la planificación navideña y aún no has pensado qué te pondras en cada una de las citas que se avecinan este mes; cenas de empresa, Nochuebuena, Navidad, Nochevieja, Año Nuevo y un sinfín de citas improvisadas, siento decirte que lo llevas un poco crudo.
Sí, puede que pienses que todavía "queda mucho" para que lleguen todas esas fecha ineludibles, pero cuando menos te lo esperes estarán delante de tus narices y tú enfrente del armario sin saber qué ponerte. Pero no te preocupes, no te voy a dar más trabajo, sino a resolverte problemas. Por ello, he ideado ( con la ayuda de algunos amigos estilistas) una guía de estilo para lucir impecable en cada reunión. Varios looks para cada ocasión, para causar buena impresión y, sobre todo, para sentirte orgulloso de ti mismo.
Toma nota.
Time to showcase some sartorial prowess, gentlemen. It’s party season and the only way to go is head-turningly sharp. From top tips on wearing a tux, to a rundown on formal footwear, below is our guide to looking good – nay, excellent – for the festivities of Christmas and New Year.
So whether you’re headed to a strictly black tie ball or need to whip your smartwear into shape for a work do, these are the top five pieces to survive the season in style.
El Esmoquin
El uso del Esmoquin está asociado a la noche y a la celebración de eventos destacados a última hora de la tarde y siempre que las señoras acudan de largo o de cocktail , no para ceremonias. Si te invitan a una fiesta de Fin de Año o Navidad de las “formales” siempre tienes que ir con esmoquin y recuerda “en las bodas, el esmoquin sólo lo llevan los camareros”.
La chaqueta puede ser cruzada o simple, la única diferencia radica en que la cruzada resulta menos formal . La solapa debe ser negra y podrá terminar en punta o redondeada pero con el mismo brillo y textura que el fajín y pajarita que hallamos elegido para la ocasión. En cuanto al color, oficialmente será negra, azul noche o blanca . En los últimos tiempos se acepta la tendencia de la chaqueta en terciopelo granate, azul noche o verde botella. Toda chaqueta de esmoquin deberá tener un bolsillo para pañuelo o pochette que será blanco salvo, que la chaqueta sea de terciopelo , en ese caso deberemos coordinar con el fajín y pajarita elegidos.
La camisa será blanca con puños dobles para lucir nuestros gemelos y con cuello wing para facilitar el nudo de la pajarita.
La pajarita es obligatoria. Nada de corbatas con un esmoquin y a ser posible de las que se anuda uno mismo , las ya preparadas restan clase. El tamaño de la pajarita deberá estar en proporción con la solapa de la chaqueta y el cuello de la camisa.
¿Tirantes con el esmoquin? Desde luego , pero por una razón funcional : mantendrán el pantalón en su sitio para no dejar ver la camisa bajo el fajín.
En cuanto a los zapatos siempre unos oxford acharolados, nada de botines. No hay nada menos estiloso que unos bajos de pantalón enganchados en el interior de un botín.
The Tuxedo
If the onset of Christmas sees your inbox overflow with invites to classy parties and chic soirées, then the highest of fives to you, sir, because here lies an opportunity to step out looking swish in a perennial menswear classic: the tuxedo.
Every man – no matter what your occupation – will need to call on the peerless style of a tux at one point or another. So, if you don’t already have one of these hanging in your wardrobe, now’s the time to invest.
When it comes to selecting a tuxedo, there are three key options to choose from: notch, peak and shawl lapels. Peak styles add welcome breadth to beanpole frames, while shawl lapels streamline the more heavily set. Notch styles are perhaps the safest option; sitting somewhere in the middle, they work well for the majority of body types.
As for colour, steer conservative: black is timeless, while midnight blue offers plenty of personality and a subtle point of difference (but probably won’t fit quite as many dress codes as the former).
For a slim and super smooth silhouette, make yours an all-black number with a satin shawl lapel. It’s a classic and its shape is flattering enough to shave a few pounds off your midsection, if you’re carrying some festive heft. Go all-out and pair yours with some patent leather shoes, a proper self-tie bow tie and a white Marcella shirt with a wing or turndown collar.
You’ll find first-in-class options (with first-in-class price tags to match) at Gieves & Hawkes and Tom Ford (Bond’s current brand of choice), but, mercifully, the high street is loaded with smart, yet relatively low cost styles, leaving you with plenty of leftover cash to splurge on a bottle of Moët to accessorise your look with.
La chaqueta de terciopelo
Es, sin duda, la estrella de las fiestas navideñas. A diferencia del esmoquin, te la puedes poner en cualquier tipo de celebración y siempre te dará un aire urbanista y sofisticado. La mayoría de la gente cree que el terciopelo es un tejido cuando, en realidad, se trata de una estructura que comparten muchos tejidos diferentes. Es la trama que toman los filamentos de una tela cuando ésta se ha producido de una manera determinada, en un telar especial.
Aunque casi siempre el terciopelo se elige en colores oscuros, porque son los que potencian el brillo de la tela, para esta Navidad es concretamente la gama de los azules y burdeos profundos los triunfadores.
A la hora de llevarlo puesto inspírate en el estilo de los años 80 para la noche, pero en los 90 para el día. El sport noventero te permitirá sentirte tan cómodo como si estuvieras en pijama, mientras que los brillos de los 80 te aportarán la sofisticación requerida cuando cae el sol.
Con una chaqueta de terciopelo brillarás estas navidades, seguro.
Velvet Jacket
To coincide with the forthcoming season of mulled everything, the likes of Zara, H&M, Reiss and SuitSupply have stacked their shelves with a slew of handsome velvet jackets for the more sartorially intrepid partygoer. Not only are they a statement-making alternative to a sober dinner jacket – in a sharply tailored fit, they’re also surprisingly versatile.
Find a style that’s cut slim rather than boxy and fits you as well as any other of your suit jackets: sleeves not too long or short, nipped just right at the waist, not too broad or restrictively narrow through the upper back and shoulders.
If you’re a card-carrying party season peacock, opt for a jewel colour like purple, amber or emerald. Alternatively, if you’re looking to strike a more classic tone, then go for one in black, navy or burgundy. Wear yours as a straight swap for your tuxedo or suit jacket. You can also dress one of these down for a shindig that doesn’t dictate a super strict dress code by pulling it over a roll neck and teaming with black denim.
Estampados en los pantalones
Ya que estamos en Navidad ¿porqué no te atreves con algo más festivo, sales de los clásicos azules o negros y te pones unos pantalones con estampados?
No te estoy insinuando que parezcas un payaso de circo pero sí que te des un aire más festivo y optes por estampados discretos pero efectivos.
Es una de las tendencias más destacadas del momento y quizá una de las más difíciles, o no, de ver en las calles, aunque todo llegará, pero lo que esta claro que tanto grandes firmas de lujo como casas de precios más asequibles han apostado por la moda de este tipo de pantalones
Además de lo típicos en cuadros o rayas, esta Navidad los veremos, como se suele decir, de todos los gustos, formas y colores. Psicodélicos, abstractos, gráficos, con prints animales… todo tiene cabida, y sino atentos a las variadas propuestas.
En este tipo de pantalones yo que tú huiría de los que tienen efecto skinny o los fit (demasiado ajustados) y me inclinaría por los slim. Parecerás mucho más esbelto.
Patterned Trousers
Injecting your look with little idiosyncrasies is what party season is all about, not to mention a simple way of asserting your status as the best dressed man in the room.

As with all statement pieces, you’ll want to keep the rest of your look low-key by comparison – so try your checked trews with a crisp white dress shirt and some smart shoes in black or dark brown. Zapatos de charol
Chicos, los zapatos lo son todo. De nada sirve ir como un pincel si nos ponemos unos zapatos desgastados o, peor aún, “los de siempre”. Así que de cara a estas fiestas hay que comprarse unos zapatos de charol ( los brillantes de toda la vida)
Afortunadamente las tendencias han cambiad mucho y hoy en día los encuentras en cualquier zapatería o tienda de moda aunque antes era casi imposible tener unos por su elevado precio.
Los hay de muchas clases; los Derbies, los Oxford, con o sin hebilla, con lazos, más o menos brillantes pero todos tienen algo en común: los vas a tener que sacar brillo para lucirlos siempre pulcros y limpios. Con un poco de vaselina de vez en cuando parecerán nuevos cada vez que te los pongas.
Patent Shoes
Traditionally speaking, a pair of patent leather lace-up dress shoes is the only footwear to consider for black or white tie events. Exceptionally elegant, the hallmarks of a classic pair of dress shoes include a slim, sleek silhouette and a thin leather sole. Nothing beats them when it comes to styling out a tuxedo.
In the interest of versatility, however, it’s worth considering your options. Nowadays, there are fresher, more contemporary styles in patent that put a modern spin on the traditional dress shoe. For instance, a pair of Derbies, Oxfords, wingtip brogues or buckled monk-straps look the business in high shine leather and bridge the gap between traditional and contemporary styling brilliantly – though you’ll want to deploy the latter two cautiously, as details plus patent can sometimes equal overkill.
Whichever style you plump for, pulling them off is all about the polish. Which means regularly cleaning and polishing them with a specially formulated patent leather cleaner, or some mineral oil or Vaseline if in a pinch.

Como ya te habrás imaginado para lucir perfecto no basta sólo con ponerse un traje o unos zapatos maravillosos, hay mucho más. Es el universo de los accesorios que aunque a veces nos prestan una ahorrada son las guindas del pastel.
Os asombraría comprobar como un traje o un esmoquin no demasiado caro con los complementos adecuados se puede transformar en algo completamente distinto, mas elegante y sofisticado.

Pañuelo de seda en la solapa
La función de este pequeño detalle en la solapa de tu blazer es simplemente decirle al contrario “mira que estilizo tengo”. Créeme que funciona. Es mejorar tu look final hasta limites insospechados.
