Mejor no entrar a valorar si una exposición sobre la obra de Banksy es algo deseable o totalmente absurdo, porque, al fin y al cabo, si por algo es conocido este artista es precisamente por dinamitar los convencionalismos del arte contemporáneo y una exposición de este calibre es un convencionalismo más.
Lo mejor es que vayas con los sentidos bien abiertos y sin ideas preconcebidas, porque solo así podrás responder a la pregunta que titula la propia expo: ¿es Banksy un genio o un vándalo?
Una cosa está clara, este graffitero británico allí donde pinta, la lía, y todo coleccionista se muere por hacerse con una obra suya. Banksy, símbolo universal de la rebeldía y crítico feroz del capitalismo, es un auténtico ídolo de masas aunque nadie conozca su identidad ni su rostro.

Billed as an unauthorised exhibition, over 70 works taken from private collections around the world make up the body of this event, which is the first to showcase Banksy’s art in Spain.
It explores the work of one of the most controversial and intriguing creatives of recent times, a street artist who has managed to remain anonymous while being welcomed by the art world at large.
The pieces include sculptures, videos, installations and photographs and take visitors into his unique universe.

La obra expuesta (28 serigrafías originales y 45 reproducciones) está valorada en unos 17 millones de euros. La más cara, casi dos millones, es un enorme grafiti pintado sobre un muro de ladrillo titulado Stop Esso, en alusión a la campaña que lanzó Greenpeace en 2000 para boicotear a la petrolera estadounidense por sus efectos nocivos contra el medio ambiente.
Ni que decir tiene que el artista no avala esta exposición del mercado secundario de su obra. Cuando, a comienzos de año, esta muestra se inauguró en Moscú, Banksy escribió a un seguidor en su cuenta de Instagram: “Sabe que esto no tiene nada que ver conmigo ¿verdad?”.
