Estareis de acuerdo conmigo en que pocos diseñadores españoles causaron tanto revuelo en los últimos tiempos como David Delfín. El "enfant terrible" de la moda de nuestro país ofrecía en cada una de sus presentaciones sobre la pasarela diseños revolucionarios que acaparaban la atención no sólo de los amantes de la moda, sino del público en general.
Las circunstancias más crueles de la vida se lo llevaron antes de lo previsto y, con él, a una parte fundamental de la historia de la moda española.
El diseñador, que falleció a los 46 años en 2017 debido a un tumor cerebral, logró hacer de su marca homónima todo un referente a nivel internacional y marcó un antes y un después en el diseño patrio, con una obra cargada de reivindicaciones y con unos diseños andróginos que difuminaron la línea de los géneros en la moda.
En el año en el que Delfín habría cumplido los cincuenta y en el que habría celebrado dos décadas como diseñador, no podeis perderos la gran muestra homónima en la Sala Canal de Isabel II de Madrid. La exposición, perfectamentamente montada y confeccionada al mínimo detalle, es un recorrido global por toda su obra.

The "enfant terrible" of our national fashion scene offered in each of his presentations on the stage revolutionary designs that captured the attention not only of fashion lovers, but of the general public.
The toughest circumstances of life took him earlier than expected and, with him, a fundamental part of the history of Spanish fashion.
The designer, who died at the age of 46 in 2017 because of a brain tumour, succeeded in making his label a point of reference worldwide and marked a before and after in Spanish design, with a work full of claims and with androgynous designs that blurred the line of the genres in fashion.
In the year in which Delfín would have turned fifty and in which he would have celebrated two decades as a designer, you cannot miss the great homonymous exhibition at the Canal de Isabel II Hall in Madrid. The exhibition, perfectly staged and made up to the smallest detail, is a global tour of all his work.

Los que amamos la moda estamos de acuerdo en que David Delfín, representó como ningún otro el surgir de una nueva generación de jóvenes creadores que llegaron con la entrada del milenio, y que concibieron la moda de una manera interdisciplinar.
David hizo de su proyecto DAVIDELFIN –fundado junto a los hermanos Gorka, Diego y Déborah Postigo, y su musa y amiga, Bimba Bosé- una plataforma colectiva en la que convivieron diferentes formas de expresión artística, como la fotografía, la performance, el vídeo, la música y la moda.
La exposición se articula en torno a la trayectoria de David Delfín, partiendo de Sans Titre (1999), su primera colección no planteada como tal, sino como un ejercicio pictórico en busca de nuevos soportes, pasando por la polémica Cour des Miracles (primavera/verano 2003). Una colección cuya malinterpretación supuso a la vez un duro golpe y un revulsivo para continuar defendiendo su universo creativo.
All of us who love fashion can agree that David Delfin represented, like no other, the rise of a new generation of young creators who arrived at the beginning of the millennium, conceiving fashion in an interdisciplinary way.
David made his project DAVIDELFIN - founded together with the Gorka brothers, Diego and Déborah Postigo, and his muse and friend, Bimba Bosé - a collective platform in where different forms of artistic expression, such as photography, performance, video, music and fashion, coexisted.
The exhibition is structured around David Delfín's career, starting with Sans Titre (1999), his first collection not planned as such but as a pictorial exercise in search of new supports, and going on to the controversial Cour des Miracles (spring/summer 2003). A collection whose misinterpretation was both a hard blow and a revulsion to continue defending his creative universe.
Creedme, David Delfín no solo desdibujó las fronteras entre la moda y el arte, también borró los límites de género con colecciones ambiguas que masculinizaban las prendas para ellas y feminizaban las de ellos. Así lo planteó en Password (2004) o en Ladies and Gentlemen (2005).
También la relación del diseñador con distintas corrientes artísticas es uno de los ejes vertebrales de la muestra. El simbolismo, y también la influencia del mundo freudiano del subconsciente, atraviesan la obra de David Delfín. Tal y como se explica en el catálogo de la exposición, "para los simbolistas, el mundo es un misterio por descifrar. El artista debe trazar las correspondencias ocultas que unen los objetos sensibles, capturar las verdades más absolutas".
Del mismo modo, el malagueño, fascinado por los lugares más recónditos del inconsciente, el interior del ser humano y lo onírico, estudió a los artistas que más lo impactaron y reinterpretó su trascendencia a través de escritos, pinturas, vídeos y moda. Todo esto, se encuentra plasmado en la exposición.
Believe me, David Delfin not only blurred the boundaries between fashion and art, he also erased gender borders with ambiguous collections that masculinized clothes for women and feminized clothes for men. This is how he put it in Password (2004) or in Ladies and Gentlemen (2005).
The designer's relationship with various artistic trends is also one of the central themes of the exhibition. Symbolism, and also the influence of the Freudian world of the subconscious, runs through David Delfín's work. As explained in the exhibition catalogue, "for the symbolists, the world is a mystery to be deciphered. The artist must trace the hidden correspondences that bind the sensitive objects capturing the most absolute truths".
In the same way, the Malaga-born artist, fascinated by the most recondite places of the unconscious, the interior of the human being and the dreamlike, studied the artists that most impacted him and reinterpreted their transcendence through writings, paintings, videos and fashion. All this is reflected in the exhibition.
Tras pasar más de un ahora viendo la exposición, no me queda más remedio que rendirme a los pies de uno de los diseñadores que más han dado que hablar en los últimos años en nuestro país.
Es verdad, su repentina muerte nos sorprendió a todos, su huella es profunda y su sombra alargada. Todo esto se encuentra perfectamente plasmado en esta muestra que, degún dicen sus conocidos, esta hecha con mimo, detalle y mucho respeto.
David Delfín se fue dejándonos un legado fuerte y poderoso y, sobre todo, una senda a seguir que, a día de hoy, nadie se ha atrevido a continuar.
La exposición pemanecerá abierta para todos hasta el 10 de mayo.
After spending more than an hour at the exhibition, I have no choice but to bow down to one of the most popular designers in our country in recent years.
It's true, his sudden death surprised us all, his footprint is deep and his shadow lengthy. All this is perfectly captured in this exhibition that, according to his colleagues, is made with care, detail and much respect.
David Delfin left us a strong and powerful legacy and, above all, a path to follow that, to date, no one has dared to continue.
The exhibition will remain open to everyone until May 10.
