Para muchos hombres ( yo incluido) el afeitarse es una molestia rutinaria y con las prisas no le prestamos atención al daño que podemos hacerle a nuestra piel sino se hace bien. El afeitado es el rey de los cuidados masculinos y merece cierta atención y dedicación para hacerlo correctamente y convertirlo en un placentero tratamiento de belleza.

Afeitado en seco: Maquinilla eléctrica
Es la favorita de quienes tienen la piel sensible. No es tan eficaz como las cuchillas o la navaja y requiere la piel seca para su correcto funcionamiento. No se recomienda para barbas tipo crespo, y si tienes un vello fuerte, es aconsejable utilizar las de cabezales giratorios, que aportan un ligero y suave masaje en la piel y los músculos, para facilitar el afeitado correcto. Para barbas finas es aconsejable utilizar las afeitadoras de láminas, pues son más manejables y delicadas.
Vuelve el clásico: la navaja

Aunque el proceso de afeitado es más largo, se consigue un mejor apurado y es más ventajoso para la piel. Ideal para los amantes del ritual, el gusto por lo vintage, y de ese cierto toque fetichista, genuinamente masculino y profesional, pues requiere de precisión y dominio de la técnica. Consejos de afeitado
Deja que tu piel despierte. Si te afeitas a primera hora, tu piel aún permanece hinchada y adormilada. Date 10 minutos mientras desayunas y así tendrás la piel preparada para un buen afeitado.
Una correcta limpieza previa. Limpia primero tu piel con agua fría y jabón, que contribuye a activarla. Si te lavas con agua caliente la piel quedará excesivamente seca y facilitas su irritación y pequeños cortes.
Dale a tu piel unos días de descanso. No es aconsejable afeitarse todos los días, aunque si no te queda más remedio, puedes dedicar el fin de samana para dejar descansar tu piel y aprovechar para un ritual de hidratación y cuidado facial.
Utiliza buenos productos. Conocer tu tipo de piel es básico para encontrar los productos más apropiados. Hoy en día la variedad de la gama facilita un cuidado más eficaz, sin gastar demasiado.
Comprueba el estado de tus cuchillas. Si te afeitas todos los días, es recomendable cambiar el cabezal una vez a la semana, especialmente si tienes la barba dura. Imprescindible para prevenir rojeces, cortes e irritaciones en la piel.
Sin prisas. Las prisas son malas compañeras también en el afeitado. No utilices movimientos largos, ve poco a poco y cuidando tu piel en cada pasada.
La brocha y el masaje circular. Uno de los utensilios a tener en cuenta es la brocha de afeitado. Es muy útil y ayuda al jabón o la cema de afeitado apenetrar en los poros, además de masajear el pelo antes de pasar la cuchilla. Si usas cremas o geles directamente, aplíca siempre un masaje circular con los dedos para facilitar su absorción.
Hidratación de la piel. La mayoría de los aftershave que encontrarás en el mercado contiene un elevado índice de alcohol, que reseca tu piel, afecta a su barrera protectora natural y puede generar irritaciones. Sustitúyelos por una buena loción hidratante que restituya la barrera protectora de tu piel, o por un gel de aloe vera, especialmente si tienes la piel sensible. Te ayudará a calmar e hidratar la piel y reducir a su vez la irritación.

Es imprescindible conocer la técnica para un correcto afeitado y evitar las molestias posteriores.
No aprietes. Deja que las cuchillas hagan su trabajo. Desliza sin presionar la cuchilla contra la piel. Al contrario de lo que se dice, presionando la piel no consigues un mejor apurado y lo único que puedes provocar el la irritación de la zona.
Nunca a contra pelo. Si comienzas tu afeitado a contrapelo, conseguirás irritar tu piel y no mejoras el afeitado. En su lugar, desliza las cuchillas suavemente en el sentido del nacimiento del pelo y aplicando pasadas cortas y suaves. Puedes ayudarte tensando la piel con los dedos. Reserva las pasadas a contrapelo sólo si es necesario y sólo en las segundas pasadas.
Deja el bigote para el final. El vello sobre el labio es es de mayor dureza y resistencia. Por ello conviene dejar esa zona para el final del afeitado dejando que se empape bien de crema y suavice el afeitado.
Refresca tu piel. Una vez finalizado, es aconsejable aclarar tu piel con agua fría para cerrar los poros y alivio de la piel. Posteriormente, aplica una loción hidratante como hemos visto anteriormente.
