Qué bien me lo pasé el domingo leyendo “El enigma de Samargatha”, un cómic lleno de aventuras y acción que tiene como "leiv motiv" el que ,quizás, sea el misterio más grande del alpinismo; si fueron o no los británicos John Mallory y Andrew Irvine los primeros en alcanzar la cima del Everest en 1924 (¡29 años antes que Edmund Hillary y Tenzing Norgay, en 1953!) La trama ya de por sí es interesante y si a eso le unimos un grupo de nazis queriendo coronar también la cima del mundo, el resultado no puede ser mejor.
El cómic te agarra nada más empezar y no te suelta hasta la última viñeta. Está lleno de aventuras, gags, situaciones divertidas, personajes de toda índole y lleva la firma de uno de los mejores dibujantes de nuestro país, Jota, y dos curtidos guionistas de TV como José Manuel Tafalla y Abelardo Ortolá.
Es un tebeo con mucho sabor a montaña y a nieve. No esperéis una reproducción exacta sobre lo que realmente pasó en esa expedición al Everest ( si es que pasó algo de verdad) sino una divertida comedia llena de personajes buenos y malos que, afortunadamente, sabe no tomarse demasiado en serio su base histórica.
Sencillamente fantástica.
What a great time I had on Sunday reading "The Enigma of Samargatha", a comic full of adventures and action that has as a "leiv motiv" what, perhaps, is the biggest mystery of mountaineering; whether or not the British John Mallory and Andrew Irvine were the first humans to reach the summit of Everest in 1924 (29 years before Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay, in 1953!) The plot is already interesting and if to all of that’s we add a group of Nazis wanting to crown the top of the world, the result could not be better.
The comic grabs you as soon as you start it and does not let go until the last bullet point. It is full of adventures, gags, funny situations, characters of all kinds and bears the signature of one of the best cartoonists in our country, Jota, and two great TV writers such as José María Tafalla and Abelardo Ortolá.
It's a comic with a lot of mountain flavor and snow. Do not expect an exact reproduction of what really happened on that expedition to Everest (if anything really happened) but a fun comedy full of good and bad characters who, fortunately, knows not to take their historical base too seriously.

¿A qué ya os ha picado la curiosidad sobre esta historia? Pues lo que dice un estudio científico elaborado por científicos de la Universidad de Toronto y difundido por la versión digital de diario The Telegraph es que George Mallory y Andrew Irvine no habrían podido alcanzar la cima del Everest en su expedición de 1924 ya que es completamente imposible sobrevivir a la “tormenta perfecta” que afectó la montaña en esas fechas.
Los expertos canadienses aseguran que los datos recogidos durante los días de 1924 en que Mallory e Irvine llevaron a cabo su ascensión muestran que ambos se vieron inmersos en una ventisca que provocó un brusco descenso del nivel de oxígeno hasta niveles fatales. Esta nueva hipótesis respaldaría la versión de que el neozelandés Sir Edmund Hillary y el sherpa Tenzing Norgay fueron los primeros en pisar el techo del mundo tres décadas más tarde.

Reconozco que la delirante trama llena de situaciones extremas unida a esos carismáticos dibujos tan bien trazados te hacen pasar un buen rato, disfrutar de cada personaje, de cada secuencia y de todo el comic.

But well, as I said at the beginning what matters least in the comic is the true story but the fabulous script that Ortolá, Tafalla and Jota have created.
I recognize that the delirious plot full of extreme situations together with those charismatic drawings so well laid out make you have a good time, enjoy each character, each sequence and the entire comic.
