Hoy os voy a enseñar una de las cuentas más fascinantes que he encontrado en Instagram, la de la artista canadiense Ambera Hellmann. Distorsionar la realidad y encontrar el humor en objetos comunes a través de la lente de lo absurdo es el enfoque de esta peculiar fotógrafa y pintora. Tal vez sientas asco o te de la risa cuando veas cambiado en sus fotos el sentido de las cosas, altere su contexto y cambie tu perspectiva de los objetos que fotografía.
Amera Wellmann juega con la sexualidad, la imagen corporal o con algo tan simple y doméstico como un plátano. Algunas imágenes te asombrarán, otras te darán nauseas y otras ( las menos) te dejarán indiferente.

The oil painter and post-modern Instagram artist posts her strange and unsettling yet seductive creations on Instagram, where she has a loyal gang of followers, some who just cant get enough, and some who can't run far enough from Wellmann's imagery. But that's the deal here: love or loathe.

Ella asegura que disfruta manipulando contextos y composiciones para cambiar convencionalismos y darle “una nueva vida” a los objetos que fotografía. El resultado, nos guste o no, es espectacular, te quedas mirando las fotos en plan hipnótico sin parar de pensar en qué le estaría pasando por la cabeza cuando lo fotografió.

Blending terrifyingly contorted close-ups of body parts with deconstructed fruits and scrambled pieces of clothing, this is the epitome of anti-aesthetic. She says her feed on instagram is a collection of images that explore depictions of the body through painting and photography, and through photographs and films of paintings. They’ll see lots of body parts and a lot of food on there.
En palabras de esta artista, el humor debería ser negro y la oscuridad debería tener algo de humor. Y precisamente en su obra el humor está en todas partes; un humor diferente, algo incómodo e irracionalmente placentero ( quizás por eso gusten tanto)
En resumen: un regalo a los ojos no apto para aquellos más delicados y sin pizca de manipulación digital.
For me, Wellmann’s posts transcend the “gross” and become fascinating, or, at a minimum, humorous. If beauty only exists with its negation, ugliness, I realize that this grossness can only exist with its counterpart, comfort. The comfort I derive from Wellmann’s posts is my own body reacting to what I know to be true: our bodies, bound and packaged, are consumed as if they are food. Seeing food treated as body suggests how unusual this practice is. I have always found the paintings of Francis Bacon to be gross, but without the sense of comfort I feel in Wellman’s images.
