No se me ocurre mejor idea para recibir el 2020 que hacer realidad el sueño de todo niño grande: poder dormir en una casa en lo alto de un árbol.
Y es que, a pesar de que el 2019 ha sido un año fantástico, yo he tenido muchos altos y muchos bajos por lo que me apetecía alejarme unos días del bullicio y las celebraciones del año nuevo para volver a lo básico, disfrutar del silencio, de los amaneceres y, sobre todo, respirar. Y así, sin planearlo mucho, nos fuimos con Sara a unas cabañas en los árboles en plena Sierra de Gata de Cáceres.
Os confieso que la primera noche me costó un poco dormir porque, la verdad, no estoy acostumbrado a tanto silencio (lo único que escuchas en la cabaña es el agua del río y algún perro a lo lejos) ni a acostarme a las 10 de la noche. Además, eso de saber que estás colgado de un árbol pues hace que, al menos al principio, no quieras moverte mucho... por si las moscas.
Nos despertó el sonido de la polea y un cencerro que anunciaba la llegada de la cesta con el desayuno: café y leche ecológica, zumo natural de frutos rojos, pan de pueblo y bizcochos de la zona.
Miré el reloj y eran apenás las 8 de la mañana. Había dormido como un lirón y ya estábamos en 2020. ¿A qué no hay mejor manera de empezar el año?

I couldn't think of a better idea to welcome 2020 than to realize a dream for every big boy: sleeping in a tree house.
Although 2019 has been a fantastic year for me I have had many ups and downs, so I felt like getting away from New Years' celebrations for a few days to get back to simple things.
And so, without much planning, we went with Sara to spend the last days of the year in a tree house in the middle of Sierra de Gata in Cáceres.
I must confess that the first night was a bit difficult for me to sleep because I am not used to silence so much (the only thing you hear in the cabin is the flowing water of the river and some dog in the distance) nor to go to bed at 10 o'clock at night. Besides, knowing that I am hanging from a tree makes you not want to move much, at least at the beginning... just in case.
We were woken up by the sound of the pulley and a bell announcing the arrival of a basket full of breakfast: organic coffee and milk, red fruit juice, freshly baked bread and local cakes.
I looked at my watch and it was barely 8 a.m. I had slept like a dormouse and it was already 2020. Isn't there a better way to start the year?

QUÉ VISITAR POR LA ZONA
Este lugar se encuentra apenas a dos kilómetros de un pueblo de poco más de 300 habitantes que se llama Villasbuenas de Gata, en plena sierra. Podeis dar paseos por la zona, bañaros en piscinas naturales o simplemente disfrutar del entorno.
Os recomiendo estos 3 sitios a un tiro de piedra del pueblo que os encantará.
Castillo de Trevejo
(a 24km)
Trevejo es pedanía de Villamiel en la que destacan las ruinas del castillo que defendieron los Hospitalarios Sanjuanistas, y su arquitectura típica serrana. El pueblo está declarado de Interés Turístico.
Baños de la Cochina
(a 4km)
Es un balneario con un pozo y una charca con finos lodos al que se le atribuyen facultades para el tratamiento de afecciones en piel, articulaciones y huesos.
Embalse de Rivera de Gata
(en la propia de la finca)
El embalse de Rivera de Gata se encuentre situado sobre el río de igual nombre en Villasbuenas de Gata. Domina así el paisaje de extensas masas de roble, alcornoque y encina.
WHAT TO VISIT
This place is barely two kilometers away from a village of little more than 300 inhabitants called Villasbuenas de Gata, in the middle of the highlands. You can take walks around the area, swim in natural pools or simply enjoy the surroundings.
I recommend these 3 places nearby the village that you will love.
Castle of Trevejo
(24km away)
Trevejo is a district from a little town called Villamiel, where you have to see the ruins of the castle defended by the Hospitallers of San Juan and its typical mountain architecture. The village has been declared of Tourist Interest.
Baths of La Cochina
(4km away)
It's a spa with a well and a pool of fine mud that has
faculties for the treatment of skin, joint and bone conditions.
Dam of Rivera de Gata
(on the farm )
The Dam of Rivera de Gata is located on the river of the same name in Villasbuenas de Gata It overlooks the landscape of extensive masses of oak, cork and holm oak.
DÓNDE COMER
Es verdad que en el sitio de las cabañas te ofrecen cenas y también un servicio de cafetería, pero si quieres probar toda la riqueza gastronómica de a zona te recomiendo estos 3 sitios.
El Buen Avío en Trevejo
Calle Francisco Pizarro, 15, 10894 Valverde del Fresno, Cáceres
Aquí podrás probar las tapas de kilómetro cero hechas con productos de Villamiel y Navafrías. Regadas con vinos naturales, sin sulfitos, de Antier (con conservantes) y Trasantier (sin conservantes); todos de producción ecológica a partir de viñedos históricos.
Mis recomendaciones:
Tapa de crema de calabaza con níscalos.Queso de cabra Us tres lugaris con tomate deshidratado y AVOE.
Bar El Capricho en Villamiel
Darío Bacas, 5. Villamiel
Un bar de pueblo con todo el sabor de lo auténtico para disfrutar de la cocina casera. Entre sus especialidades están el cocido extremeño, las carrilleras y los postres caseros como el flan o el tiramisú. También te recomendado que pruebes sus albóndigas con patatas acompañadas de un vino de pitarra. Apúntalo en tu agenda si quieres saber dónde comer en Sierra de Gata como si tu madre estuviese en los fogones.
El Duende de Safaril
Calle Cano de Saavedra, 29, 10892 San Martín de Trevejo, Cáceres
Este es un lugar ideal para comer a la carta platos típicos de la zona y especialidades portuguesas como el bacalao dorado o la serradura, un delicioso postre al que es muy sencillo volverse todo un adicto. Aquí también disfrutarán los amantes de la enología que podrán probar vinos extremeños difíciles de ver en otros lugares fuera de la zona como el Nadir.

Although they offer dinner and a cafeteria service, if you want to try all the gastronomic richness of the area, I recommend these three places.

Here you can try local tapas made with products from Villamiel and Navafrías. Watered with natural, sulphite-free wines from Antier (with preservatives) and Trasantier (without preservatives); all organically produced from historical vineyards.
My recommendations:
Cream of pumpkin with milk caps. Us tres lugaris goat cheese with dehydrated tomatoes and AVOE.
Bar El Capricho in Villamiel
Dario Bacas, 5. Villamiel
A village bar with the flavour of the authentic to enjoy home cooking. Among its specialties are the cocido extremeño, the carrilleras and homemade desserts such as flan or tiramisu. I also recommend that you try their meatballs with potatoes accompanied by some pitarra wine. Make a note in your diary if you want to know where to eat in Sierra de Gata as if your mother were at the kitchen.
The Duende de Safaril
Calle Cano de Saavedra, 29, 10892 San Martín de Trevejo, Cáceres
This is an interesting place to eat a la carte, typical dishes of the area and Portuguese specialties such its tipical cod or serradura, a delicious dessert you can easily become addicted to. The wine lovers will also enjoy here the taste of Extremadura wines that are difficult to see in other places outside the area such as the Nadir.
¿Y quién creéis que se lo ha pasado mejor en este viaje de fin de año? Pues sí, Sara. Sólo por verla a ella contenta, correteando de aquí para allá e intentando cazar algo (lo que sea) por esos montes ha merecido la pena este maravilloso periplo por la Sierra de Gata.
