¿Vivirías en una casa así? ¿Una casa de apariencia inestable, de madera, con algunas partes pintadas y otras no y que parece que se va a venir abajo de un momento a otro?
Esa es la reflexión que pretende que hagamos el artista Isidro Blasco en la instalación que podemos ver en el Centro Cultural Conde Duque de Madrid. “There is no place like Home” reflexiona sobre nuestra forma de mirar y contextualizar los lugares, así como del modo mediatizado que muchas veces tenemos de ver las cosas, fragmentando y reconstruyendo, reciclando materiales y sensaciones que nos ayudan a recrear el espacio arquitectónico, que se reinterpreta y depende de la percepción subjetiva de quien observa.
Para algunos puede ser un caos, para otros un hogar. En otras palabras, todo depende del color en que se mira.

Would you live in a house like this, a house with an unstable appearance, made of wood, with some parts painted and others not, and that looks like it is going to fall down at any moment?
That is the reflection that the artist Isidro Blasco wants us to do with the installation that we can see at the Centro Cultural Conde Duque in Madrid. "There is no place like Home" reflects on our way of looking at and contextualizing places, as well as the filtered way we often have of seeing things, fragmenting and reconstructing, recycling materials and sensations that help us to recreate the architectural space that is reinterpreted and depends on the subjective perception of the observer.
For some it can be chaos, for others a home. In other words, it all depends on the color in which you look at it.

Isidro Blasco combina arquitectura, fotografía e instalación para explorar terrenos físicos y psicológicos. Las imágenes digitales y los materiales de construcción en bruto se utilizan para crear entornos arquitectónicos a gran y pequeña escala y reconstrucciones tridimensionales de barrios, produciendo instantáneas de paisajes urbanos que desafían las percepciones.
Comenzando con el punto de vista de un edificio o un espacio interior o exterior, Blasco toma fotografías y junta imágenes en “esculturas fotográficas” que recuerdan a los collages cubistas con ángulos y planos multifacéticos. Las ligeras distorsiones de perspectiva de Blasco producen una revisión de las imágenes que pueden parecer reconocibles y desconocidas al mismo tiempo. El artista explica: “Conecto mi experiencia como un extraño que camina por las calles e interactúa con la ciudad con mis sentimientos más íntimos sobre los espacios cerrados y privados”.
Isidro Blasco marries architecture, photography and installation to explore physical and psychological terrains. Digital images and raw building materials are both used to create large- and small-scale architectural environments and three-dimensional reconstructions of neighborhoods, producing snapshots of urban landscapes that challenge perceptions.
By starting with the point of view of a building or an interior or exterior space, Blasco takes photographs and assembles images into "photographic sculptures" reminiscent of cubist collages with multifaceted angles and planes. Blasco's slight distortions of perspective produce a revision of images that can seem recognizable and unfamiliar at the same time. The artist explains, "I connect my experience as a stranger walking the streets and interacting with the city with my innermost feelings about enclosed and private spaces."
Sé que, a primera vista, la estructura es confusa. Se trata de una arquitectura que funciona como una monumental escultura que fuerza al espectador a recorrerla, a transitar su condición poliédrica. Lo que quiere el artista es que indaguemos dentro en esa torre de muebles apiñados y hagamos el esfuerzo de verla como algo natural. De esta forma rompemos moldes y podemos romper barreras.
En fin, no sé si el mensaje es claro o no, pero a mi me ha hecho pensar. La instalación permanecerá en el Conde Duque hasta junio. No os la perdáis.
I know that, at first sight, the structure is confusing. It is an object of architecture that seems to function as a monumental sculpture that forces the viewer to walk through it, to walk through its polyhedral condition. What the artist wants is for us to dig inside this tower of huddled furniture and make the effort to see it as something natural. By doing so, we break molds and we can break barriers.
Anyway, I don't know if the message is clear or not, but it has made me think. The installation will remain at Conde Duque until June. Do not miss it.
