Es esta que veis, pesa sólo 2,5 kilos y es de magnesio, uno de los metales más ligeros. La han creado en Tel Aviv Gilli Kuchik y Ran Amitai, una pareja de diseñadores que llevan más de 10 años trabajando en el mundo del interiorismo.
La silla, bautizada como VELA, ha sido presentada por la marca italiana de muebles Magis durante la semana del Diseño de Milán y, sin duda, promete ser la revolución del mercado no sólo por la novedad sino por sus prestaciones.
Aunque es estructuralmente fuerte y fácil de trabajar, el magnesio pesa un 30 por ciento menos que el aluminio. También puede ser más delgado, lo que permite un diseño mucho más flexible.
Los diseñadores querían "expresar esa ligereza" en una silla que fuera fácil de mover y apilar, lo que la hacía muy adecuada para cafés y restaurantes.

Unveiled by Italian furniture brand Magis during Milan design week, the Vela chair plays to the strengths of its low-density material.
Whilst structurally strong and easy to work with, magnesium weighs 30 per cent less than aluminium. It can also be cast thinner, allowing for a much more slender design.
The designers wanted to "express that lightness" in a chair that is easy to move around and stack up, making it well suited to cafes and restaurants.

They said that after a comprehensive exploration of magnesium's properties and manufacturing possibilities, they decided that they wanted to deal with stacking as the main idea.
The chair back features two cut-out sections, which the designers describe as "like stretchers through the back of the seat".
These provide the openings for the legs of any chairs to be stacked on top, as well as creating two handles for users to grab when they lift the chair. The chairs can be "infinitely and tightly" stacked in this way.
The lightweight chair is moulded and powder-coated, without the drainage holes typical of outdoor seating, and comes in six colours: silver, white, black, green, red and brown.
