Mi primer año nuevo austral no podría haber sido en mejor sitio: en Chile y en los tranquilos y hermosos viñedos de Santa Cruz, a unos 180 kilometros al sur de la capital, Santiago. No sabíamos dónde pasar el Año Nuevo y un amigo chileno ( hola Edu) nos recomendó esta zona donde se producen los mejores vinos del país. La visita merece la pena; hay multitud de bodegas que hacen recorridos por los viñedos con catas incluidas.
Lo que más me sorprendió de esta zona viticultora es la juventud de las plantaciones. La mayoría sólo tienen entre 20 y 30 años, algo que para nosotros, con viñedos que datan de la época del imperio romano, es algo difícil de asimilar. Es cierto que los vinos son de buena calidad, quizás algo sobrevalorados, y los he disfrutado mucho, ya que el haber nacido cerca del Mediterráneo, la cuna del vino, me permite distinguir mejor su calidad.
My first New year eve in the austral hemispheres could not have been in a better site: In Chile and in the quiet and beautiful vineyards of Santa Cruz to some 180 kilometers south of the capital Santiago. We did not know where to spend the New Year and a Chilean friend ( Hi Edu)recommended us this area where they produce the best wines in the country. The visit is worthwhile, there are a multitude of wineries that make tours around the vineyards with wine tasting included. What surprised me most in this area viticultora is the youth of the plantations.
Most of them are only between 20 and 30 years old which for us with vineyards dating from the time of the Roman empire is something difficult to assimilate.
It is true that the wines have good quality and I enjoyed them very much but I think that being born near the Mediterranean, the cradle of wine, gives me a plus of wisdom in the area and , in spite of the quality of the chilean wines, I still prefer the Spanish wines.
Santa Cruz es un pequeña ciudad dedicada exclusivamente a la producción de vino y al turismo que lo rodea. Todo aquí huele a viñas y es absolutamente acogedor. Nos hospedamos en el hotel Santa Cruz y allí recibimos el Año Nuevo. La diferencia horaria con España es de cuatro horas menos, así que corrimos a comprarnos uvas a un supermercado cercano y a las 8 de la tarde pusimos Televisión Española Internacional y nos comimos las uvas al son de las campanadas de la Puerta del Sol de Madrid. Luego nos preparamos para la entrada del Nuevo Año aquí en Chile.
Santa Cruz is a small town devoted exclusively to the production of wine and the tourism that surrounds it. Everything here smells to vineyards and is quite inviting. We stayed at the Hotel Santa Cruz and received the New Year right there. The time difference with Spain is four hours less so we ran to buy grapes to a nearby supermarket and at 8 PM we tuned Spanish Internacional TV Channel and we ate the grapes to the pealing of the bells from the Puerta del Sol in Madrid. Then we prepared for the entrance of the New Year here in Chile.
A pesar de la alegría del Nuevo Año siempre tengo algo de nostalgia al recordar Nocheviejas de años pasados. Me acuerdo de los que ya no están conmigo y la tristeza me envuelve unos minutos. Pero yo digo que es una especie de melancolía sana, porque el mero hecho de recordarlos hace que otra vez estén conmigo por unos momentos, o al menos esa es la sensación que tengo. Así que mi último brindis del año va por ellos.
In spite of the joy of the New Year coming I always have something of nostalgia to remember New Year’s Eves of last years. I remember those who are no longer with me and the sadness envelops me for a few minutes. But I believe it is a sort of good melancholy, because the mere fact to remember them it seems they are with me for a few moments, or at least that is the feeling I have. So my last toast of the year is to them.
Y tras la fabulosa cena en el hotel, con espectaculares fuegos artificiales incluidos, pensé en lo maravilloso que ha sido 2016 y en todo lo bueno que nos va a traer 2017. Me da el corazón que el Año Nuevo va a ser francamente bueno para todos.
Aunque suene muy tópico-típico decirlo de verdad os deseo que vuestros sueños se hagan realidad. Ya sabéis que nada es fácil y hay que luchar por conseguirlos pero sé de buena tinta ( o sea, por mí mismo) que todo llega. No hay recetas mágicas yo sólo os puedo recomendar las mías: sed siempre fieles a vosotros mismos, amad a los que os aman, sed honestos y ,sobre todo, divertirse mucho.

And after the fabulous dinner at the hotel, with spectacular fireworks included, I thought how wonderful 2016 has been and about everything good that 2017 is going to bring us. My heart tells me that the New Year is going to be frankly good for all of us Although it sounds very typical to say I really wish you that all your dreams becomes true. As you already know nothing is easy and we have to fight hard to get them but I know for sure that everything comes. There are no magic recipes I can only recommend you mine: be always faithful to yourselves, love those who love you, be honest and, especially, amuse yourself very much. HELLO 2017
