El fin de semana pasado me acerqué al MULAFEST, el Festival de Tendencias Urbanas que marca el pistoletazo de salida a los festivales veraniegos en nuestro país. Os confieso que ha sido mi primera experiencia en este tipo de festivales y , la verdad, me ha sorprendido bastante y para bien. La idea de hacer visible al gran público el "arte underground" en un sólo recinto hace que de repente los grafitis, los skaters, la música rap o el parkour no me parezcan tan lejanos y por fin entiendo un poco mejor que reclamen su sitio en el mundo del arte. De hecho, ya muchos lo catalogan como arte urbano a pesar de sus detractores y , por supuesto, sus muchísimos seguidores. En cualquier caso te guste o no está ahí y para quedarse.
Puede que para el gran publico no sean conocidos nombres como Misterpiro, Antonyo Marest, Fernando Maselli o Kaufman, junto a Adolfo Calles (Rebellion), Federico Ruiz (CRO), Pepo Rossel (Radical Ducati), Hermanos Valtoron o Nomade Cycles. Todos son artistas urbanos que por aquí han pasado estos días.
MULAFEST is a festival. A festival is pervasive. There is no place, no continent, no country, no community, no culture, no civilisation in which it isn’t present. Despite not always being taken into consideration, its omnipresence has ended up suggesting that it exists to fulfil a profound human need—that of celebrating. Whatever its specific focus, it must aspire to provide a context for ideas and become a mechanism in which ceremonial forms of frustration and enlightenment may be simultaneously expressed.
MULAFEST t is a city. Just as all living organisms create their own environment, man constructs the city that, in turn, transforms him so that he may reproduce it. However, this circular movement may acquire a certain creative meaning when individuals can revolutionise it with their imagination to produce a different city, one in which the dignifying of individual and collective existence acquires definitive values.
MULAFEST no es sólo es grafitti, sino una propuesta amplia que va desde la zona Garaje, dedicada a los apasionados del motor, a interesantes propuestas de arte y diseño, una amplia oferta gastronómica o la sección dedicada a la India, con masterclases de yoga, auténtic street food india o la famosa fiesta de los colores Holi, ambientada con Djs y coreografías de Bollywood.
Un año más ( y ya van cinco) MULAFEST busca consolidarse como un festival que celebra la cultura urbana en su más amplio sentido, acercándose a un público amplio en gustos pero que se aleja de lo habitual.
MULAFEST is a massive event for urban culture, that encourages creativity and alternative talent. Lovers of bikes, underground art, music, breakdance, skateboarding all come together in the same place, Feria de Madrid, along with a large Street Food area for enjoying the latest international trends in street food. More than 35,000 visitors flocked to the fourth edition in 2015. The festival is the high point of the MULA Community, a network of information, people and events around urban trends that come together through social networks, websites (www.mulared.org / www.mulafest.com), and warm-up activities that the festival holds throughout the year.
Dicen los entendidos en Festivales Urbanos de Música que este es sin duda uno de los que más arriesga en su planteamiento. En parte, por programar dos días de conciertos con una oferta musical bastante alejada de otros festivales madrileños como el Villamanuela en octubre o el reciente GetMAD.
El cartel del Mulafest 2016 va desde el R&B y elegante de la norteamericana Kelela a la electrónica tras una máscara de SBTRKT o al estilo personal de uno de los artistas más reconocidos – y polémicos -del hip hop alternativo español, C. Tangana.
With the aim of reflecting the latest street trends, at this fifth edition of the festival, Spanish and Indian culture has united with the IIFA Stomp activities, with the latest currents in Music, Art, Dance, Cinema and Gastronomy from both countries. MULAFEST has opened the window to India’s alternative culture, all within the framework of activities around the International Indian Film Academy Awards Gala (IIFA) that took place in Madrid that same weekend.
En MULAFEST me encontré con muchas propuestas que no me las esperaba; como su escenario playa, donde poder realizar deportes como voleyball mientras se disfruta de conciertos, y también de hamacas. Hay talleres creativos de malabares, cariocas, pintura o make-up. Concursos de Cosplay, así como de deportes de riesgo, véase skate, BMX o workout, incluso multitud de Street foodstrucks donde poder comer comida rápida de calidad a precios razonables.

In the same space of Madrid- -Fair meet all motorsports fans, the underground art, music, skateboarding … and which also will accommodate a large area of Street Food, where you can sample the latest trends international gastronomic street food.
Music is a part of the festival that celebrates five years of border culture with a sign that reaffirms its vocation electronic pioneers and newcomers to the industry, pointers on the international scene.
Como es la primera vez que acudo a este tipo de Festivales tengo que hacer caso de los que entienden ( son los que veis en las fotos a los que pregunté). Ellos me dijeron que este año MULAFEST ha sido más completo que otros, que se nota que va cumpliendo años para mejor. Según ellos el ambiente ha sido fantástico. ¿Lo mejor? La actuación de Tangana. ¿Lo peor? el precio: 65 euros el abono. ¿Volverás? Todos dicen que si. Pues eso, me parece que yo también.
As this was the first time I went to such festivals I had to ask those who knows it well ( they are the one you see in the pictures). They told me that this year MULAFEST has been more complete than years before, it is noticed that is fulfilling years for the better. According to them the atmosphere was fantastic. The best? Tangana 's performance . Worst? the price: 65 euros manure. Will you come back next year? Everyone says so. For that, I think I do too.
