SALUSTIANO, DE NUEVO “ON THE ROAD"

Una vez leí unas declaraciones de Salustiano en las que decía que en sus "cuadros nunca pasaba nada y que, por no haber, no había ni temática”. Seguramente tenía ( y tiene) razón, pero pocos pintores en el mundo evocan tanto con tan sólo una imagen.

Me acordaba de esas palabras el otro día viendo “On The Road”, la nueva exposición de este sevillano universal en la Galería Lucía Mendoza de Madrid. Y es que, quizás, no pase nada en sus cuadros pero, en mi mente, los protagonistas de sus imagenes no paran de decirme cosas.

En “On The Road”, una vez más, Salustiano se ha vuelto a superar a si mismo. Seguramente, como a todos, el confinamiento le haya pasado un poco de factura y ha querido plasmar en sus nuevas obras sus viajes, sus emociones; esa pequeña ansiedad de saber que lo que has vivido no va a volver a pasar. Pero sin dramatismos. Por eso sus cuadros se han vuelto más urbanos, con más color, mucho más pop e incluso, me atrevería a decir, más personales.

Es un placer mirar las obras de Salustiano. Tienen algo de hipnóticas. Son tan perfectas que a veces te olvidas que estás delante de un cuadro y te dejas llevar por las miradas de los protagonistas.

Las obras de este artista cuelgan de paredes tan famosas como las de la Fundación del Dalai Lama . Acaba de inaugurar en Madrid, donde sus "idealizaciones" fisonómicas y sus increíbles rojos te van a deslumbrar.

Once I read some statements by Salustiano saying that in his "paintings nothing ever happened, even the subject matter was missing". Surely he was right (and he is), but few painters in the world evoke so much using just one single image.

I remembered these words the other day when I saw "On The Road”, his new exhibition at the Lucía Mendoza Gallery in Madrid. Perhaps nothing happens in his paintings, but in my mind, the figures of his paintings do not stop telling me things.

With "On The Road ", Salustiano has overcome himself once again. Surely, like everyone else, the confinement may have overtaken him a little and he wanted to capture in his new pieces his travels, his emotions; that little anxiety he felt knowing that what you have experienced will not happen again. But with no drama. That is why his paintings have become more urban, with more color, much more pop and even, I dare say, more personal.

It is a pleasure to look at Salustiano's paintings. They are quite hypnotic. They are so perfect that sometimes you forget that you are in front of a painting and let yourself be carried away by the gazes of the protagonists.

The works of this artist hang on walls as famous as those of the Dalai Lama Foundation. He has just opened in Madrid, where his physiognomic "idealizations" and his incredible reds will dazzle you.

¿A qué no te dejan indiferente? Frente a una de sus obras todo lo que te rodea se desvanece, quedas atrapado por las miradas de sus personajes, sus gestos, y el color que lo tiñe todo de una dimensión espiritual. Son cuadros de cuatro, cinco o incluso siete metros de intenso color. La perfección de su ejecución y sus acabados te dejan atónito, es una mezcla muy potente de intenciones que suscitan un gran asombro y admiración. El magnetismo que ejercen sus pinturas evoca sentimientos muy potentes al observador, y rápidamente te das cuenta de que aquello no te va a dejar indiferente.

Salustiano empieza su proceso de creación escogiendo los modelos a quienes va a retratar. Escoge aquellos que le seducen con su mirada, aquellos que con su físico puedan contar lo que el artista quiere decir. Primero realiza una sesión fotográfica y, a partir de las imágenes obtenidas, empieza su proceso pictórico propiamente dicho creando en sus cuadros un realismo mágico, imágenes explícitas que contrariamente nos transportan a un mar de dudas y preguntas sin respuesta.

Is it possible to be indifferent to them? In front of one of his works everything around you vanishes, you are trapped by the looks of his characters, his gestures, and the color that tints everything with a spiritual dimension. They are paintings of four, five or even seven meters of intense color. The perfection of his performance and his details are astonishing, it is a very powerful mixture of intentions that cause great amazement and admiration. The magnetism of his paintings evokes very powerful feelings to the observer, and you quickly realize that this will not leave you indifferent.

Salustiano begins his creative process by choosing the models he will portray. He chooses the ones that seduce him with their gaze, those that with their physique can tell what the artist wants to express. First he makes a photographic session and, from the images obtained, he begins his pictorial process itself, creating in his paintings a magical realism, explicit images that, on the contrary, transport us to a sea of doubts and unanswered questions.

On The Road permanerá en la Galería Lucía Mendoza de Madrid hasta el 7 de noviembre. Es una oportunidad única de acercarte a ver la obra de unos de los pintores contemporaneos más importantes de nuestro país que triunfa en todo el mundo y que, sin duda, ha revisado el concepto de retrato.
