Dice el diccionario que la tolerancia es es un valor moral que implica el respeto íntegro hacia el otro, hacia sus ideas, prácticas o creencias, independientemente de que choquen o sean diferentes de las nuestras. Yo, en estos pocos días que llevamos de 2018, he visto como este concepto que se supone arraigado en nuestra sociedad brilla por su ausencia. Aparentamos ser tolerantes pero en cuanto nos damos la vuelta no movemos un dedo por hacer respetar la opinión de los demás.
Por eso aplaudo con fuerza exposiciones como la que vi el otro día en el Centro Creativo Matadero de Madrid y que estará hasta finales de mes; 40 posters que nos recuerdan que la tolerancia es una actitud fundamental de la vida en sociedad. Todos debemos ser tolerantes y aceptar opiniones o comportamientos diferentes a los establecidos en nuestro entorno social o por nuestros principios morales. Eso nos convertirá en seres mucho más avanzados
The dictionary defines tolerance is a moral value that implies full respect towards the others, towards their ideas, practices or beliefs, regardless of whether they clash or are different from ours. I, in just a few days of 2018, have seen how this concept that is supposed to be rooted in our society is conspicuous by its absence. We appear to be tolerant but as soon as we turn around we do not move a finger to enforce the opinion of others.
That is why I strongly applaud exhibitions such as the one I saw the other day at the Matadero Creative Center in Madrid, which will be until the end of the month; 40 posters that remind us that tolerance is a fundamental attitude of life in our society. We must all be tolerant and accept opinions or behaviors different from those established in our social environment or by our moral principles. That will make us much more advanced human beings
"Tolerancia: The Poster Show" es una exposición itinerante de carteles. La característica más llamativa de esta exposición es precisamente esa, su condición ambulante. Además, en cada nueva parada, los fondos de la exposición van aumentando con nuevas adquisiciones.
Las obras expuestas han salido de la mano de más de 40 diseñadores, los cuales han aportado su punto de vista sobre el tema de la tolerancia, un valor tan necesario en la historia de la humanidad y, claro está, también en los tiempos contemporáneos.
Cada uno de los posters nos recuerda que la tolerancia es el reconocimiento de las diferencias inherentes a la naturaleza humana, a la diversidad de las culturas, las religiones o las maneras de ser, amar o de actuar. Algunos de los artistas que exponen sus obras en esta muestra son Reza Abedini, Seymour Chwast, Paula Scher, Un mundo feliz o Milton Glaser, según el cual la tolerancia debe usarse como un “antídoto contra la competitividad que caracteriza a nuestra especie”.
"Tolerance: The Poster Show" is a traveling exhibition of posters. The most striking feature of this exhibition is precisely that, its traveling condition. In addition, at each new stop, the funds of the exhibition are increasing with new acquisitions. The exhibited works have come from more than 40 designers, who have contributed their point of view on the issue of tolerance, a value so necessary in the history of humanity and, of course, also in contemporary times.
Each of the posters reminds us that tolerance is the recognition of differences inherent in human nature, the diversity of cultures, religions or ways of being, loving or acting.
Some of the artists who exhibit their works in this exhibition are Reza Abedini, Seymour Chwast, Paula Scher, A happy world or Milton Glaser, according to which tolerance should be used as an "antidote to the competitiveness that characterizes our species."
El comisario de la exposición es Mirko Ilic, un artista y dibujante de cómics nacido en Bosnia y radicado en Nueva York. Además de artista, Ilic ha escrito un buen puñado de libros sobre diseño gráfico, algunos de ellos elaborados a cuatro manos junto con el citado Milton Glaser.
Hoy en día, Mirko Ilic es profesor de la School of Visual Arts de Nueva York y conocido por sus publicaciones sobre diseño, entre las que destacan The Design of Dissent junto a Milton Glaser. Su trabajo se encuentra en prestigiosas colecciones como el Smithsonian Museum y el MoMA de Nueva York.
Como os dije al principio los posters estarán hasta finales de mes expuestos en el Matadero de Madrid; una magnifica oportunidad para recordarnos que la la tolerancia se basa en el respeto hacia lo otro o lo que es diferente de lo propio. Por favor, nunca lo olvides.
The curator of the exhibition is Mirko Ilic, an artist and comic book artist born in Bosnia and based in New York. In addition to an artist, Ilic has written a handful of books on graphic design, some of them produced in four hands together with the aforementioned Milton Glaser.
