Cualquier excusa es buena para volver a Londres y en Navidad mucho más. La ciudad se engalana, se ilumina, se llena de espectáculos musicales, teatros de calidad y eventos únicos y espectaculares. Yo me fui a pasar unos días para celebrar mi cumpleaños y me empapé ( nunca mejor dicho) de todas las atracciones y diversiones que ofrece Londres estos días.
Si no es tu primera visita a Londres y ya has visto las principales atracciones de la ciudad te recomiendo que estos días te relajes paseando por la ciudad, viendo las luces navideñas, yendo de compras y... patinando. Yo no sabía que a los londinenses le gustase tantísimo ponerse los patines por estas fechas, pero la ciudad esta llena de pistas de hielo para todos los gustos y edades. Yo fui a la de Somerset House, enfrente del río, y la verdad, disfruté muchísimo. Aquí os dejo una especie de mini-guía de Londres por Navidad.
Any excuse is great to go back to London and if it´s Christmas season time much better. The city is decorated, illuminated, filled with musical shows, theaters and unique and spectacular events. I went to spend a few days to celebrate my birthday and I got soaked (never better said) seeing all the attractions and amusements things that London offers these days.
If it is not your first visit to London and you have already seen the main attractions of the city, I recommend you to relax and walk around the city, seeing the Christmas lights, going shopping and ... skating. I did not know that Londoners liked it so much to put on skates at this time, but the city is full of ice rinks for all tastes and ages. No dejes de pasear por Oxford Street, Regent Street o Carnaby Street. Las tiendas van acorde a la iluminación de la calle así que date una vuelta por Harrods para ver que tienen preparado, así como por Covent Garden y Greenwich Market. Merecerá la pena. Cada calle, mercado o gran tienda celebra el alumbrado de Navidad un día diferente y con desfiles, música y fiestas.
En este recorrido de decoraciones navideñas londinenses no puede faltar una parada en Trafalgar Square, para ver el árbol decorado y con un poco de suerte disfrutar de los villancicos que se cantan bajo él todos los días.

Es tradición dejarse caer por uno de los muchos mercadillos que se instalan en estas fechas en Londres y que se suman a los habituales. Los hay de lo más variado y repartidos por toda la ciudad, al igual que en otros puntos del Reino Unido.
En Kingston se puede encontrar un mercadillo tradicional alemán, con su comida típica y su vino caliente. En Borough Market, cerca del Támesis, se venden alimentos de primera calidad para la preparación de la comida o cena de Navidad. Ante la Tate Modern hay un mercado de arte y el de la Torre de Londres ofrece regalos singulares. Hay para todos los gustos, yo me fui al de Leicester Square en pleno centro de la ciudad.
After a bite to eat, it’s time for a picturesque walk along the river Thames, where you can tuck into roasted chestnuts and enjoy the festive decorations. Drop by Wintertime at Southbank Centre to look for gifts among the traditional wooden chalets at the Christmas market, while enjoying some warming mulled wine.
If you’re visiting the city with little ones, you can meet Father Christmas and his helpers at one of Santa’s grottos in London. Kids can send letters to the North Pole when meeting Father Christmas at Hamleys toy store, or delve through a tropical world to find Santa at the Rainforest Cafe.
I went to Leicester Square in downtown to enjoy the whole christmas atmosphere.
Una última cosa; si vas a pasar la Nochevieja en Londres seguramente ya sabrás que aquí no es tradición comerse las doce uvas al son de las campanadas como en España. Habitualmente se sigue la cuenta atrás de la entrada en el nuevo año y después se felicita y abraza a familiares y amigos y al final todos cantan el 'Auld Lang Syne '.
Ah, y aunque suene mega turístico, apúntate a alguna de las cientos de fiestas programadas con cena en el Támesis, cruceros para despedir el año e incluso una experiencia navideña al estilo de la serie de televisión Downton Abbey que incluye, una recepción, una comida y una actuación de un coro local que promete hacer sentir a los visitantes como si fueran huéspedes del mismísimo Lord Graham.
One last thing; If you are going to spend New Year's Eve in London you will surely know that it is not tradition here to eat the twelve grapes to the sound of the bells like in Spain. Usually the countdown of the entrance in the new year is followed by people and then they congratulates and embraces family and friends and in finally everyone sings the 'Auld Lang Syne'.
Oh, it may sounds very tourist, but you should sign up for one of the hundreds of parties scheduled with dinner on the Thames, cruises to say goodbye to the year and even a Christmas experience as in a TV Show Downton Abbey that includes, a reception, a meal and a performance by a local choir that promises to make visitors feel as if they were guests of Lord Graham himself.
