Quedar en el Oso y El Madroño de Puerta del Sol con amigos o familiares es casi una tradición si vives en Madrid. Esta estatua, símbolo de la capital y millones de veces fotografiada por locales y turistas, es, quizás junto a la Cibeles, lo más conocido de la ciudad.
Pues bien, que pensarías si te dijera que desde hace unos días y hasta febrero hay 40 réplicas del Oso y Madroño por todo en Madrid, eso sí, un poco más colorida que el original de la Puerta del Sol. Algo muy similar a lo que se hizo con las Meninas de Velázquez
Esta singular iniciativa srgió del concurso “Muchas Gracias, Madrid”, organizado por la Cadena Ser, El País y el ayuntamiento de Madrid que tenía como objetivo rendir un homenaje a todas las personas y colectivos que lucharon y siguen luchando contra la Pandemia de la Covid-19.
Cualquier persona o colectivo podía participar en el concurso con una propuesta original que versionara la obra del escultor Antonio Navarro, de 1967. Lo ganaron los hermanos
Paloma y Vicente Delgado, de 44 y 57 años. Los dos presentaron su candidatura de forma conjunta bajo el título El cielo de Madrid te ama. Pintaron la estatua con nubes y, en el torso del oso, se eleva un globo rojo con forma de corazón. Se lo dedicaron la pueblo de Madrid, a su resistencia y su resiliencia.
Yo me fui con Sara a ver unos cuantos osos (que en realidad son osas) y quedé francamente impresionado.
Meeting up with friends or family at the Oso y El Madroño in Puerta del Sol is almost a tradition if you live in Madrid. This statue, a symbol of the capital and photographed millions of times by locals and tourists, is, along with the Cibeles fountain, perhaps the best known thing in the city.
Well, what would you think if I told you that since a few days ago and until February there are 40 replicas of the Bear and Strawberry Tree all over Madrid, yes, a little more colorful than the original in Puerta del Sol. Something very similar to what was done with Velázquez's Meninas.
This unique initiative came from the contest "Muchas Gracias, Madrid", organized by Cadena Ser, El País and the city of Madrid, which aimed to pay tribute to all the people and groups who fought and continue to fight against the Pandemic of Covid-19.
Any person or group could participate in the contest with an original proposal that versioned the work of the sculptor Antonio Navarro, from 1967. It was won by the siblings
Paloma and Vicente Delgado, aged 44 and 57. The two presented their candidacy together under the title El cielo de Madrid te ama. They painted the statue with clouds and, on the bear's torso, a red heart-shaped balloon rises. They dedicated it to the people of Madrid, to their resistance and resilience.
I went with Sara to see a few bears (which are actually female bears) and was frankly impressed.
Las nuevas representaciones tienen más color. Una está dedicada al metro de Madrid por su labor esencial en tiempos difíciles; otra pone cara a las profesiones que estuvieron en primera línea en la pandemia, una ilustra la espera de los vecinos en los balcones; otra más refleja un cielo azul de esperanza; y todas transmiten el mismo sentimiento: gratitud.
Algunos de los osos llevan las mascarillas y los uniformes de los sanitarios, en otro están representados los balcones llenos de flores desde donde se aplaudía a las ocho de la tarde durante el confinamiento. O colchones donde por fin se puede descansar después de un duro día de trabajo.
Las 40 estatuas han sido fabricadas en fibra de vidrio y resina de poliéster, dos materiales resistentes a la intemperie; el mismo, por ejemplo, con el que se fabrican los contenedores de vidrio.
Cada una de ellas se erige sobre un pedestal con las mismas medidas que el oso y el madroño original.
The new designs are more colorful. One is dedicated to the Madrid subway for its essential work through the difficult times; another shows the faces of the professions that were on the front line during the pandemic; a third one illustrates the waiting of the neighbors on the balconies; and another one reflects a blue sky of hope; and all of them convey the same feeling: gratitude.
Some of the bears wear the masks and uniforms of the healthcare workers; another depicts the flower-filled balconies from which people clapped their hands at eight o'clock in the evening during the confinement. Or mattresses where you can finally rest after a hard day's work.
The 40 statues have been made of fiberglass and polyester resin, two weather-resistant materials, the same, for example, with which glass containers are made.
Each of them stands on a pedestal with the same dimensions as the original bear and strawberry tree.
Algunas de estas estatuas han sido adquiridas por empresas ―Ford, Santander, El Corte Inglés, BBVA, Carrefour, Ecoembes e Iberia— que, además de haber patrocinado su creación, destinarán una parte de los ingresos a fines benéficos.
En la base de las esculturas se encuentra una placa con el nombre de los dibujantes y el mensaje de agradecimiento que han querido transmitir.
Las podéis ver por las calles de los 21 distritos de Madrid hasta el próximo 28 de febrero. Son, sencillamente, maravillosas.
Some of these statues have been purchased by companies -Ford, Santander, El Corte Inglés, BBVA, Carrefour, Ecoembes and Iberia- which, in addition to sponsoring the sculptures, will donate part of the proceeds to charity.
At the base of the sculptures there is a plaque with the names of the artists and the message of gratitude they wanted to convey.
You can see them in the streets of the 21 districts of Madrid until February 28th. They are simply wonderful.
