“¡Cuando yo tenía vuestra edad caminaba esta 10km hasta la escuela con temperaturas bajo cero sin pestañear. No como ustedes, mocosos malcriados de hoy en día!” ¿ A qué una frase más o menos así te suena? Y es que todos tenemos un pariente mayor que nos ha dicho cosas como esta, desesperado por la juventud mimada con nuestros teléfonos inteligentes, música sin sentido y padres que aparentemente no saben decir no a todo lo que queremos.
¿Y sabes que? Puede que tenga razón.
Aunque el mundo pueda parecer un lugar más peligroso ahora, los niños de generaciones anteriores tuvieron que hacerse su propio entretenimiento, aprender a cuidarse por sí mismos desde una edad más temprana y tomar muchos más riesgos mientras lo hacían. Los padres de entonces no tenían webs como Sapos y Princesas para ayudarles on line con cada pequeño problema o, a la vez, hacerles sentir culpables y estresados por darles a los niños demasiada libertad y así aprender de sus propios errores.
Para celebrar los enfoques más excéntricos de la crianza de los hijos de la vieja escuela, he encontrado una serie de fotos “vintage” en las que se ven a padres e hijos haciendo cosas que horrorizarían a los bloggers y a los Instagrammers de hoy en día.
Es un "pequeño homenaje" a nuestros mayores.
Back in my day, we used to walk 5 miles to school in sub-zero temperatures without batting an eyelid. Not like you spoiled little brats these days!" We all have an older relative who says things like this, despairing of the coddled youth with their smartphones, crappy music and parents that seemingly can't say no to their every demand.
And you know what? They might actually have a point. Although the world might seem like a more dangerous place now, kids of previous generations had to make their own entertainment, learn to look after themselves from a younger age and take far more risks while doing so. Parents didn't have things like Mumsnet to help them with every little issue or, alternatively, guilt and stress them out for giving kids too much freedom to learn from their own mistakes.
