No hace mucho andando por Paris me encontré esta divertida escena: ¡la hierba entre las piedras de una acera tenían ojos y manos!! Me llamó la atención y le tomé una foto.
El caso es que cuando llegué a la casa de los amigos que nos habían invitado a pasar unos días con ellos, le enseñé la foto y ellos me sacaron de dudas: había dado con una obra de Sandrine Estrade Boulet, una famosísima "Street Artist" francesa que cuando ella quiere va y hace una de las suyas; es decir dar rienda suelta a su imaginación transformando lo urbano y cotidiano en preciosas escenas que, a mí al menos, me devuelven a mi infancia cuando miraba las nubes (o a una baldosa) y les ponía cara, gestos y emociones.
French artist Sandrine Estrade Boulet takes pictures of everyday objects on the streets of Paris and then draws over them to give new meaning to ordinary things like street posts, puddles or even a broken umbrella.
She says that when we are a kid, we spend hours laying down in the grass seeing/visualizing amazing things in the clouds. Well, she has decided this should never stop.
She likes to sit on a bench even for only two minutes, watching our every day surroundings and making it look different, poetic and fun.
“To stop running and look further than our feet. Take time to contemplate our everyday environment. Rediscover it. Wait. Try to see rather than look.” Count on me.
Es impresionante, ¿a que sí? Es fácil que todo esto te pase desapercibido porque, lamentablemente, con las prisas del día a día hemos perdido la habilidad de percatarnos de las cosas pequeñas que hay en nuestra ciudad o, más bien, de los pequeños mensajes que alguien nos quiere mandar con sus acciones.
Creo que ese es el caso de Sandrine. Creo que ella nos quiere decir que pisemos un poco el freno de nuestras vidas, que volvamos a nuestra infancia cuando todo nos parecía increíble y con multiples significados. En otras palabras que lo veamos todos como lo hacíamos hace muchos años y, seguramente, nos irá mejor.
We've all heard the saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure" but Sandrine takes the idiom and turns everyday trash into a treasure for everyone to experience.
Boulet's playful outlook on life reinvents the urban world. A pile of garbage bags waiting to be picked up by the sanitation truck is enlivened simply by the addition of a pair of cartoonish arms extending from their crumpled bodies. A patch of greenery peeking out of a crack in the pavement is re-envisioned as a cheerleader's pom pom energetically thrust into the air. Through the artist's surreal view of the world, the shape and form of each city figure is reassigned to a new entity.
Bueno, ya habréis visto como Buelet lo transforma todo; algunas veces sus creaciones parecen incluso dibujos animados que van a tomar vida de un momento a otro.
Me llama la atención que casi toda su obra es destructible; es decir, o se la va a llevar el viento o la lluvia o alguien la pisoteará sin querer. Y que también, a diferencia de otros Street Artists, no utiliza graffitis ni materiales contaminantes como sprays o pinturas no acrílicas. Quizás sea por eso que los edificios o las calles que se encuentran de la noche a la mañana con una de sus obras lo valoran como el oro
Boulet is also known to create cutouts and apply those to everyday structures. There's an interesting self-awareness to her work–Boulet clearly doesn't take herself deathly seriously, and that's refreshing for an artist. Boulet will also occasionally combine techniques to create really fascinating stuff.
It's almost cartoonish in a way–and her process of combination is very intriguing. She's certainly got her own style, and I find it to be awesome.
What's most interesting, perhaps, is that none of her art is necessarily meant to be permanent.
So, unlike graffiti artists, Boulet does not deface or vandalize existing structures.
She can turn the most unexpected things into fun images, such as this, which I kind of hope isn't puke.
Espero que os haya gustado, a mí me fascinó desde el primer momento en que descubrí su obra. Sobre todo porque ella decidió seguir viendo el mundo como cuando era una niña. Para algunos es símbolo de inmadurez y una soberana tontería. Para mí es símbolo de personalidad y de no tener miedo a ser uno mismo.

So everybody's happy–from artists to building owners. Boulet's work knows no bounds, which is a must for an artist. Boulet tackles street signs, cracks in the sidewalk, the ocean, and even garbage. And she manages to make garbage look lovable. The street art is a fun reminder to look for the quirkiness in your surroundings.
And it is unabashedly silly at times. Boulet is not afraid to be herself, and that is perhaps the greatest quality of all.
