I dressed up in my SOLOIO flower shirt to go and see and enjoy the exhibition on the figure of the great Lola Flores, which can be seen these days at the National Library.
"Si me queréis, ¡venirse!" (If you love me, come!) is the title of the exhibition made with material that the institution had acquired over the years about La Faraona. Documents, sound recordings, video recordings, sheet music, photographs, magazines, books, posters... all kept at the BNE and which tell the story of Spain's contemporary history.
An exhibition full of art and color that will remain open to the public until January 21.
Do not miss it, it is worth it.

There has been many discussions about the figure of Lola Flores. Beloved and hated in equal parts, "Lola de España" (as she liked to be called) is for many one of the best interpreters of the so-called canción española, but many others consider her to be nothing more than a loyal reflection of the pro-Franco Spain in which she lived (or survived).
We have recently celebrated the centenary of her birth, but has she really gone away? I would say no. Her musical validity remains solid (and if not, just tell it to C. Tangana or Rosalía, who still cover her in their concerts), and her mark as a character is always there, with dozens of anecdotes that still bring a smile to our faces today. The best way to celebrate her is by telling her incomparable stories, like the ones told here at the Biblioteca Nacional.

The exhibition has five sections dealing with the history of the artist that go hand in hand with the contemporary history of Spain in the 20th century.
Firstly, the roots, from her birth until the war, from 23 to 38. These are the years of the Silver Age, when the flamenco revival in Spain began in the 1920's with figures such as García Lorca, la Argentina, la Argentinita or Pastora Imperio, a period in which the artist from Jerez took up the torch reflected in the sound recordings in the library.
A second moment is the post-war period itself. Here comes the provocative Niña de Fuego, sung by Manolo Caracol, and La Zarzamora, the dancing, copla and theater artist, from 39 to 49. She was featured in her famous and passionate Zambras, as opposed to a black-and-white Spain.
Next comes the international movie star, from '50 to '74. The racial Salvaora -a full-fledged femme fatale- becomes the apparently modern protagonist of the photocolor. These are the years of the Faraona, to the rhythm of flamenco rumba with her Pescaílla.

The fourth stage belongs to the post-Franco period, with the Transition and democracy as a backdrop. It is between 1975 and 1994 where she reinvents herself again as Lola de España. She faced the misunderstanding and rejection of the new musical trends, but also as a paradoxical pop icon of post-Francoism and post-modernity.
And finally, as an exciting finale, the exhibition invites new generations to reflect on her significance, her legacy and her imprint as one of the most resounding voices of 20th century Spain, as well as one of the most absurd and contradictory.
