Me lo habían contado muchos amigos: "tienes que ir a la Alsacia para ir a ver la decoración de Navidad de sus pueblos". Pues aquí me veis paseando por las calles de Colmar y Riquewihr dos pequeños pueblos de esta región francesa empapándome de Navidad dulce Navidad.
La repostería navideña es fabulosa por aquí y algo que me encanta: VINO CALIENTE DULCE!!. Es fantástico! Levanta hasta los muertos. Con el frío se agradece tomarlo.
Many friends used to tell me: " you should go to the Alsace in France to see its towns during Christmas time, you will love it". And here I am walking around Colmar and Riquewihr inmerged with Christmas thoughts of peace and food, yes I said food!.
I say it because you know I love sweet things, and in Alsace during Christmas its pastries are absolutly fantastic and they drink something I can resist: SWEET HOT WINE!! Delicious!
Si los mercadillos navideños son el gran atractivo de estas fechas en muchas ciudades europeas, te aseguramos que en Alsacia estos son los auténticos protagonistas y en gran parte, el motivo de que muchos viajeros hagan este viaje. Repartidos por pueblos y ciudades salpicando los centros históricos, recorrerlos es sinónimo de calentarse bebiendo vino caliente, degustar dulces típicos con olor a canela, tararear villancicos y como no, comprar algún souvenir navideño que seguro, se convertirá en uno de los mejores recuerdos del viaje.
Es importante saber que en algunas localizaciones como Estrasburgo o Colmar, los mercadillos navideños se reparten por la ciudad y estos sueles ir encontrándotelos a medida que vas paseando. En cambio, en otras localidades más pequeñas, se monta un solo mercado, que siempre suele estar en la zona más céntrica de la ciudad.
If Christmas markets are the main attraction of these dates in many European cities, we assure you that in Alsace these are the real protagonists and in large part, the reason why many travelers make this trip. Spread throughout villages and towns dotting the historic centers, touring them is synonymous with warming up drinking mulled wine, tasting typical sweets with the smell of cinnamon, humming Christmas carols and of course, buying some Christmas souvenirs that will surely become one of the best memories of the trip.
It is important to know that in some locations such as Strasbourg or Colmar, the Christmas markets are spread throughout the city and you will usually find them as you walk around. On the other hand, in other smaller towns, only one market is set up, which is always in the most central area of the city.
En cuanto a la gastronomía hay todo un surtido de pequeños bocados tentadores a los que es muy difícil resistirse. A mi me gustan todos: los bredeles, de naranja, canela, anís, chocolate o nueces; los manuales con sus divertidas formas y adornados con todo tipo de toppings; la envolvente dulzura del pan de jengibre; la explosión de sabores de la beerawecka, sobre todo si se acompaña con una loncha del “gastroemblema” alsaciano que es el foie gras; y, sin olvidar, por supuesto, los springerles decorados con relieves navideños que son una auténtica obra de arte.
Para quienes no se conformen con la degustación in situ, hay diversos talleres culinarios para llevarse a casa los secretos gastronómicos y reproducir en casa una perfecta navidad al modo alsaciano.
As for gastronomy, there is a whole range of tempting little bites that are very hard to resist. I like them all: the bredeles, orange, cinnamon, anise, chocolate or nuts; the manuals with their fun shapes and decorated with all kinds of toppings; the enveloping sweetness of gingerbread; the explosion of flavors of the beerawecka, especially if accompanied by a slice of the German shepherd "gastroemblema" that is foie gras; and, not forgetting, of course, the springerles decorated with Christmas reliefs that are a true work of art.
For those who are not satisfied with the tasting on site, there are several culinary workshops to take home the gastronomic secrets and reproduce at home a perfect Christmas in the German shepherd way.
Os tengo que reconocer que mi primera impresión al ver todo aquello fue que era demasiado cargante;pero ahora de vuelta en Madrid y en mi casa pienso en ello y lo echo de menos.
Es admirable ver cómo todo el pueblo colabora para que sus calles luzcan impecables durante el mes de Navidad. Pareciera que todos se hubieran puesto de acuerdo para hacernos la vida más bonita, al menos durante estos días.

I have to confess that my first thought when I saw all of that was " oh my God, this is too much. What a waste of money" but now back in Madrid at home I am thinking in all this decoration and I really miss it.
It is remarkable to see how every local lend a hand to adorn the town during Christmas time, it seems to me that everyone agree on doing life more beautiful to you.
