Unos seis meses tardó el productor musical Julián Ruiz en seleccionar de su inmensa colección los nada menos que 867 discos que conforman Los vinilos de Plásticos y Decibelios, la exposición que desde el 8 de junio se puede admirar en el Centro Conde Duque de Madrid.
La muestra recoge sólo una ínfima parte de los miles y miles de ejemplares que Ruiz pinchaba en su famoso programa radiofónico Plásticos y Decibelios, que estuvo en antena más de cuatro décadas (en la actualidad continúa en la web), y que ha ido coleccionando todos estos años.
Del millón de vinilos que el productor musical atesora en su casa, hizo una primera selección de 600 mil. De ahí los rebajó a 3 mil y al final la organización se quedó con 867 para mostrarlos en esta exposición como auténticas piezas de museo que son.
Una vuelta al pasado analógico que nos da una idea de la importancia que tenían las portadas de los vinilos a la hora de vender la música y que no os podéis perder por nada del mundo.
It took about six months for music producer Julián Ruiz to select the 867 records from his immense collection that make up Los vinilos de Plásticos y Decibelios, the exhibition that can be admired at the Centro Conde Duque in Madrid since June 8.
The exhibition gathers only a tiny part of the thousands and thousands of copies that Ruiz played in his famous radio program Plásticos y Decibelios, which was on the air for more than four decades (nowadays it continues on the web), and that he has been collecting all these years.
Out of the million vinyl records that the music producer collects at home, he made a first selection of 600,000. From there he reduced them to 3 thousand and in the end the organization was left with 867 to show them in this exhibition as authentic museum pieces that they are.
It is a throwback to the analogical past that gives us an idea of the importance that vinyl covers had when it came to selling music and which you can't miss for any reason in the world.
Entre las joyas expuestas están ejemplares raros y únicos como los EPs de cuatro canciones de los Beatles, incluido el Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band editado en la Unión Soviética en el sello Melodía; de los Rolling Stones, como el famoso single Let's Spend the Night Together, que en la España de Franco se tradujo en la portada del single como No quiero que me dejes; o vinilos con portadas eróticas, desde los desnudos de las chicas del álbum Electric Ladyland de Jimmy Hendrix hasta el Two Virgins de John Lennon y Yoko Ono.
La exposición también incluye las primeras bandas sonoras de Walt Disney, un ejemplar de Ennio Morricone con los clásicos de Hollywood, 32 álbumes desplegables, 42 pictures-discs (discos ilustrados) y una selección de 140 vinilos españoles.
Pero el verdadero tesoro de la muestra es el conjunto de discos con las portadas que hizo Andy Warhol para varios artistas, como la del famoso plátano que ilustraba The Velvet Underground and Nico, el primer álbum de la banda en 1967, la de Sticky Fingers de los Rolling Stones en 1971 y las de otros tantos para Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin e, incluso, la carátula que el artista estadounidense hizo del Made in Spain de Miguel Bosé en 1983.
Among the jewels exhibited are rare and unique copies such as the Beatles' four-song recordings, including Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, released in the Soviet Union on the Melodia label; the Rolling Stones, such as the famous single Let's Spend the Night Together, which in Franco's Spain was translated on the single cover as No quiero que me dejes; or vinyl with erotic covers, from the nudes of the girls on Jimmy Hendrix's Electric Ladyland album to John Lennon and Yoko Ono's Two Virgins.
The exhibition also includes early Walt Disney soundtracks, a copy of Ennio Morricone's Hollywood classics, 32 gatefold albums, 42 picture discs and a selection of 140 Spanish vinyls.
But the real treasure of the exhibition is the set of records with the covers that Andy Warhol made for various artists, such as the famous banana that illustrated The Velvet Underground and Nico, the band's first album in 1967, the Rolling Stones' Sticky Fingers in 1971 and those of many others for Diana Ross, Aretha Franklin and even the cover that the American artist made for Miguel Bosé's Made in Spain in 1983.
El productor, que se considera "un loco de la música", asegura que tiene también casi medio millón de Cds, aunque los vinilos son su debilidad. Empezó a coleccionarlos cuando tenía 11 años.
Su primer ejemplar fue Let's Twist Again, el éxito de Chubby Checker. "Luego, hay que tener en cuenta que el programa Plásticos y Decibelios estuvo en antena más de 40 años y me mandaban a la radio los discos para promocionarlos", cuenta Julián Ruiz. Los que no salían en España, se los iba a comprar él mismo al extranjero. "Me he pasado horas y horas en el His Master's Voice de Londres, en Tower Records de Los Ángeles cunado existía y en otras muchas tiendas del Soho. La verdad es que la exposición conserva unas joyas absolutas que van a sorprender a todo el mundo que lo vea".
A mí me ha dejado boquiabierto.
The producer, who considers himself "a music freak", says he also has almost half a million CDs, although vinyls are his weakness. He started collecting them when he was 11 years old.
His first copy was Let's Twist Again, the hit by Chubby Checker. "Later, we have to take into account that the program Plásticos y Decibelios was on the air for more than 40 years and they would send me the records to the radio to promote them," says Julián Ruiz. Those that didn't come out in Spain, he would buy them himself abroad. "I spent hours and hours in His Master's Voice in London, in Tower Records in Los Angeles when it existed and in many other stores in Soho. The truth is that the exhibition holds some absolute jewels that are going to surprise everyone who sees it."
