¡Cuánto necesitaba pasar unos días en The Residence Mauricio! No me di cuenta hasta que, al bajar del avión, me fue a buscar al aeropuerto de la isla un chófer del hotel que me traslado a un mundo de hospitalidad y amabilidad que echaba muchísimo de menos.
En el coche bajé la ventanilla, me puse las gafas de sol y empecé a oler a mar por todos los rincones. A mar y a sal. Me trajo tantos recuerdos de mi infancia que, de repente, todos los problemas que llevaba sobre mis espaldas desaparecieron. Y eso sólo fue preludio de lo que me esperaba.

How much I needed to spend a few days at The Residence Mauritius! I didn't realize it until I got off the plane and was met at the airport by a hotel chauffeur who took me to a world of hospitality and friendliness that I missed so much.
In the car I rolled down the window, put on my sunglasses and began to smell the sea in every corner. Sea and salt. It brought me back so many memories of my childhood that, suddenly, all the problems I had on my shoulders disappeared. And that was just a prelude to what was waiting for me.
A friend who had already been to the hotel told me that it was like being at home, but much further away; she had been too short. The Residence Mauritius is a pleasure for the senses from the first moment you enter. The smells, the sea breeze, the exuberant vegetation, the smile of the staff, the ochre colors... everything seems set exactly in its place for the pleasure of your five senses.
A spectacular resort that mixes the colonial air with all the comforts of the XXI century to enjoy in a natural landscape of all the relax you undoubtedly need.

Este moderno complejo hotelero de Isla Mauricio es como un salto atrás en el tiempo, una reconstrucción de las haciendas coloniales de principios del siglo pasado con una calidad de servicio difícil de imaginarse en esta época en ningún otro lugar. La experiencia del Residence se asemeja más a la estancia en la casa de un amigo extremadamente rico que al alojamiento en el típico complejo hotelero de lujo. La atención personal de cerca de quinientos empleados ( que prestan servicios a sus 163 habitaciones) ayuda bastante a transmitir esta sensación.
Os puedo asegurar que nada de lo que hayais visto antes es comparable a esto: de esos quinientos empleados, aproximadamente una docena te reciben saludándole con las manos juntas ( la típica bienvenida al estilo indio) y uno de los miembros del séquito de mayordomos provistos de guantes blancos te deshará la maleta meticulosamente y te colocará todo tu ropa en el vestidor de tu habitación.
Y esto no acaba aquí porque durante toda vuestra estancia el personal estará a vuestra entera dispoción siempre que lo neceiteis. Todo un equipo humano que discreta y profesionalmente velan por la tranquilidad de los huéspedes.

This modern hotel complex on Mauritius Island is like a leap back in time, a reconstruction of the colonial properties from the early 20th century, with a high quality of services hard to imagine at present in any other place. The Residence experience is more like a stay at an extremely wealthy friend's house than accommodation in a typical luxury hotel complex. The personal attention of nearly five hundred employees who serve its 163 rooms helps a lot to transmit this feeling.
I can guarantee you that nothing I have seen before is like this: of those five hundred employees, about a dozen greet you with their hands together (the typical Indian-style welcome) and one of the members of the staff of butlers wearing white gloves will meticulously unpack your suitcase and place all your clothes in the dressing room.
And this is not everything because during your stay the staff will be at your disposal whenever you need them. A whole human team that discreetly and professionally watch over the tranquillity of the guests.

Los interiores también rezuman un estilo colonial, con camas con dosel, muebles de caoba y ventiladores que giran suavemente en el techo. En lugar de la aburrida profusión del blanco, propia de los hoteles más contemporáneos, aquí reina un sinfín de tonalidades beiges que dan al ambiente ese aire de tranquilidad colonial propio de mediados del siglo XX.
Los muebles vintanges, los azulejos de época, las enormes palmeras...todo en el Residence Mauricio irradia un apacible atractivo histórico que contribuye a respirar un cierto perfume a “hacienda”colonial como telón de fondo.
Todas las estancias en The Residence gozan de vistas espectaculares sobre el océano Índico o sobre los frondosos jardines tropicales que bordean el complejo.
Sin duda es un hotel para disfrutar de toda la tranquilidad de la isla aunque también para divertirse; no en vano varias noches a la semana ofrecen espectaculos de música y danza y todas las noches hay actuaciones de maestros al piano acompañados de excelentes voces.
The interiors also emanate a colonial style, with canopy beds, mahogany furniture and fans that gently rotate in the ceiling. Instead of the boring profusion of white, so typical in contemporary hotels, here rules an endless number of beige tones that give the atmosphere an air of typical mid-twentieth century colonial calmness.
The vintanges furniture, the old tiles, the enormous palm trees...everything in the Residence Mauricio irradiates a peaceful historical attraction that contributes to breathe a certain perfume of colonial "hacienda" as a context.
All rooms at The Residence enjoy spectacular views over the Indian Ocean or the dense tropical gardens bordering the complex.
It is certainly a hotel to enjoy all the tranquility of the island but also to have fun, not in vain several nights a week they offer shows of music and dance and every night there are performances by piano masters accompanied by excellent voices.
El hotel dispone de tres piscinas y de más de 1km de playa con luminosa arena blanca llena de palmeras y cocoteros que la ves desde la ventana de tu habitación. Ni un minuto tardas en bajar a la playa y disfrutar del mar tumbado en una confortable hamaca con sombrilla y atención personalizada durante todo el tiempo que estéis allí ( incluso os dan una botella de agua mineral) .
Simplemente no teneis que hacer nada. Sólo disfrutar del momento y bañaros en las aguas más cristalinas y transparentes que os hayais podido imaginar.
El entorno es increíble. El primer día lo pasas paseando por sus playas, de arriba a abajo asimilando que son reales; sus aguas entre tonos turquesas, verdes y mas al fondo un azul marino intenso hacen que no puedas dejar de admirarla.
Cuando quieras hacer algo más puedes irte al “beach club” y apuntarte a otras actividaes como el snorkel, kayak, catamarán... los monitores son también muy atentos y amables como todos los empleados del hotel.
The hotel has three swimming pools and more than 1km of bright white sand beach full of palm trees and coconut palms that you can see from the window of your room. It takes not even a minute to go down to the beach and enjoy the sea lying in a comfortable hammock with umbrella and personalized attention for as long as you are there (they even give you a bottle of mineral water).
You just don't have to do anything. Just enjoy the moment and have a swim in the most crystal clear waters you could ever imagine.
The environment is incredible. The first day you will spend strolling along its beaches, from top to bottom assimilating that they are real; its waters between turquoise, green tones and more to the bottom an intense marine blue do that you cannot stop admiring it.
When you want to do something else you can go to the "beach club" and sign up for other activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, catamaran ... the monitors are also very attentive and friendly like all employees of the hotel.
Los restaurantes, también, hacen gala de un estilo tradicional, ya sea en el comedor, junto a la piscina o al aire libre, con los jardines de la «hacienda» como telón de fondo. Aquí no hay atrevidas fusiones que valgan, la tradición manda con platos basados en la cocina francesa, con marisco y una maravillosa influencia criolla.
Dispone de tres fabulosos restaurantes. The Dining Room, para degustar deliciosos desayunos y elegantes cenas; The Verandah, donde se sirven ligeros almuerzos; y The Plantation, que ofrece una gran selección de platos preparados a base de mariscos y de especies típicos del mercado local. The Bar, espacioso y cálido a la vez, nos acoge en su amplio salón del corazón del hotel.
Cada noche el bufe es diferente por lo que si te hospedas durante una semana podrás saborear desde cocina mediterránea hasta asiática pasando por la latina y, por supuesto, la local.
The restaurants also reflect a traditional style, whether in the dining room, by the pool or outdoors, with the hacienda gardens as a backdrop. Here there are no presumptuous fusions, tradition rules with dishes based on French cuisine, with seafood and a wonderful Creole influence.
There are three fabulous restaurants. The Dining Room, for delicious breakfasts and elegant dinners; The Verandah, where light lunches are served; and The Plantation, which offers a large selection of dishes made from seafood or meat and species typical from the local market. The Bar, spacious and warm at the same time, welcomes us in its spacious lounge in the heart of the hotel.
Every night the buffet is different so if you stay for a week you can savour Mediterranean, Asian, Latin and of course local cuisine, among others.
The Residence Mauritius fue el primer hotel de la isla en ofrecer servicio de Spa en sus instlaciones por lo que los profesionales que trabajan allí son verdaderos maestros a la hora de cuidar tu cuerpo.
"The Sanctuary” ( así se llama el spa) es un experiencia única de 75 minutos de duración, yo lo pude comprobar en mis propias carnes. Se trata de una sesión en la que se combinan las técnicas de respiración del yoga para calmar la mente, un masaje de cuerpo entero con aceites aromáticos para armonizar cuerpo y mente así como técnicas del reiki japonés para restablecer el equilibrio de las energías corporales.
El tratamiento más solicitado de The Sanctuary Spa es el Masaje de Cuerpo Entero, diseñado para aliviar los músculos cansados aplicando varias técnicas que permiten alcanzar un estado de bienestar general y disfrutar de sensaciones renovadas.
Para los hombres recomiendan, el “Back Massage”, un masaje desintoxicante ideado para liberar las tensiones acumuladas en los músculos de la espalda, las cervicales y los hombros.
The Residence Mauritius was the first hotel on the island to offer spa service in its facilities so the professionals who work there are true masters when it comes to taking care of your body.
"The Sanctuary" (that's the name of the spa) is a unique experience of 75 minutes, I could verify for myself.
It is a session that combines yoga breathing techniques to calm the mind, a full body massage with aromatic oils to harmonize body and mind as well as Japanese reiki techniques to restore the balance of body energies.
The most popular treatment at The Sanctuary Spa is Whole Body Massage, a treatment to relieve tired muscles by applying various techniques to achieve a state of general well-being and enjoy renewed sensations.
For men, they recommend the "Back Massage", a detoxifying massage to release accumulated tensions in the back, neck and shoulder muscles.
Como veis, revivir la fastuosidad de los palacios y “haciendas" de otras épocas es posible en The Residence Mauritius. Aquí todo ha sido perfectamente estudiado para que disfrutemos de los placeres de la vida, los grandes y los pequeños; esos que nuestro ajetreado ritmo de vida en la ciudad nos ha quitado casi sin darnos cuenta.
Son cientos en pequeños detalles que en el momento que sales del hotel ya los estás echando de menos.

As you see, it is possible to experience the magnificence of the palaces and "haciendas" of other times in The Residence Mauritius. Here everything has been perfectly well studied to allow us to enjoy the pleasures of life, the big and small ones; those that our busy pace of life in the city has taken away from us almost unnoticed.There are hundreds of small details that you are already missing by the time you leave the hotel.
