¿Sabíais que las estrellas del cine alemán tienen su propio Paseo de la Fama al más puro estilo Hollywood? Está en Berlín, justo enfrente de donde cada año se celebra su maravilloso Festival de Cine y allí lo llaman Boulevard de las Estrellas.
Se trata de franjas granuladas de color escarlata que dan un cierto aire a alfombra roja, símbolo imprescindible en el culto a las personalidades del séptimo arte, y están adornadas con estrellas doradas de cinco puntas que llevan impresas los nombres de los artistas y técnicos más prominentes de la industria del cine en Alemania. Estas estrellas estan desplegadas a lo largo de las aceras de Potsdamer Platz durante todo el año para que cualquiera pueda acercarse y verlas.
De momento hay 105 estrellas en este Boulevard der Stars berlinés, pero hay espacio reservado para otras 110 que, de momento, aún no se han ocupado.
¿Llegará el Paseo de la Fama de Berlín a tener 2.500 estrellas como el de Hollywood? Eso está por verse ya que desde su inauguración en 2010 apenás se han colocado unas pocas más. La idea era poner 20 estrellas por año, pero desde 2014 no se ha puesto ni una más.
Con todo, eso no quita un ápice de brillo a este maravilloso Boulevar de las Estrellas del cine alemán.

Have you heard that German movie stars have their own Hollywood-style Walk of Fame? It's in Berlin, right across from where its wonderful Film Festival is held every year and they call it the Boulevard of Stars.
The boulevard is decorated with scarlet stripes that give a certain air of red carpet, an essential symbol in the cult of the personalities of the seventh art, and are adorned with five-pointed gold stars printed with some of the names of the most prominent artists and technicians of the film industry in Germany. These stars are displayed along the sidewalks of Potsdamer Platz throughout the year for anyone to approach and see.
There are currently 105 stars on this Berliner Boulevard der Stars, but space is reserved for another 110 which have not yet been occupied.
Will the Berlin Walk of Fame ever have 2,500 stars like Hollywood's? That remains to be seen, as a few more have been placed since its opening in 2010. The idea was to place 20 stars per year, but since 2014 not a single one has been added.
However, that does not take away one bit of shine from this wonderful Boulevard of the Stars of German cinema.

Aunque el Boulevard de las Estrellas de Berlín es una imitación obvia del Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood, la versión berlinesa presenta algunas atracciones añadidas de las que carece el original americano. Por ejemplo, el asfalto de color rojo evoca la típica alfombra roja de Hollywood en lugar de la baldosa de terrazo del Paseo de la Fama. Las placas de estrellas individuales de Berlín están iluminadas por la noche. Y columnas con "cámaras fantasmas" especiales salpican el Boulevard de las Estrellas, permitiendo a los aficionados al cine tomar una foto con una imagen fantasmagórica de sus estrellas de cine/TV y cineastas favoritos.
Although the Boulevard of Stars in Berlin is an obvious imitation of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Berlin version features a few added attractions that the Hollywood original lacks. Red-colored asphalt evokes the typical Hollywood red carpet – rather than the terrazzo tile on the Walk of Fame. Berlin’s individual star plaques are spot-illuminated at night. Columns with special “ghost cameras” dot the Boulevard of Stars, allowing film fans to take a picture with a ghostly image of their favorite film/TV stars and filmmakers.
A diferencia del Paseo de la Fama de Hollywood, el Boulevard de las Estrellas está dedicado únicamente a cineastas y profesionales de la televisión de habla alemana. El Paseo de la Fama de Berlín honra a los actores, directores y otras personas de Austria, Alemania y la Suiza alemana que participan en el cine y/o la televisión. La mayoría de estas personas son desconocidas para la gente de países no germanoparlantes.
Por ejemplo, personas como Thomas Gottschalk, la figura televisiva más conocida de Alemania pueden pasear por Los Ángeles sin ser reconocidos (de hecho tiene una segunda casa allí) y sin embargo en Alemania sería acosado por los fans que lo reconocerían al instante.
Pero muchas de las personas que aparecen en el Boulevard de las Estrellas son o fueron estrellas y cineastas internacionales como Marlene Dietrich, el director Josef von Sternberg, el camarógrafo de Hollywood Michael Ballhaus, el director Roland Emmerich (Día de la Independencia), el actor/director Paul Henreid (Casablanca), el actor Peter Lorre, Romy Schneider (de Austria), el director Billy Wilder, el director Fritz Lang, el director Wolfgang Petersen (Air Force One, Perfect Storm), Armin Müller-Stahl, Arnold Schwarzenegger, el compositor Hans Zimmer, y otros.
Unlike the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Boulevard of Stars is devoted only to German-speaking film and TV people. The Berlin walk of fame honors actors, directors, and other people from Austria, Germany, and German Switzerland involved in cinema and/or television. Most of these people are unknown to people from non-German-speaking countries. For example, people like Thomas Gottschalk, Germany’s best-known TV personality (“Wetten, dass…”), can walk around in Los Angeles without being recognized (which is why he has a second home there). In Germany he would be mobbed by fans – who would instantly recognize him.
But many of the people who are featured on the Boulevard of Stars are or were international stars and filmmakers such as Marlene Dietrich, her director Josef von Sternberg, Hollywood cameraman Michael Ballhaus, director Roland Emmerich (Independence Day), actor/director Paul Henreid (Casablanca), actor Peter Lorre, Romy Schneider (from Austria), director Billy Wilder, director Fritz Lang, director Wolfgang Petersen (Air Force One, Perfect Storm), Armin Müller-Stahl, Arnold Schwarzenegger, composer Hans Zimmer, and others.
Como ya os dije al principio, la idea era colocar 20 estrellas cada año pero en 2013 el Paseo tuvo que ser renovado porque, literalmente, se estaba desmoronando. La ciudad de Berlín se gastó mas de 2 millones de euros en pavimentarlo de nuevo y finalmente un año más tarde, el renovado Boulevard reabrió con la dedicación de 20 nuevas estrellas. Pero en 2015 la asociación sin ánimo de lucro que dirige el Boulevard no tenía fondos suficientes para mucho más y en septiembre de 2016 se colocaron las últimas.
Poco ha sucedido desde entonces, excepto que un accidente automovilístico dañó una estrella (la de Anke Engelke) y también parte del asfalto en 2018. Actualmente un total de 105 personalidades del cine y la televisión están representadas por estrellas en el Boulevard de las Estrellas de Berlín.
But when it was time to add even more stars in September 2013, Berlin officials had to postpone the ceremonies indefinitely. The Boulevard of Stars was literally crumbling. The red surfacing was in such poor condition, and the site itself was looking so shabby, that the city felt it could not go ahead until repairs and cleaning took place
Finally, a year later, on September 4, 2014 the renovated Boulevard reopened with the dedication of 20 new stars, 10 each for the years 2013 and 2014. But for 2015 the non-profit association that runs the Boulevard did not have sufficient funds for that year’s scheduled additions, and it would be September 2016 before another four stars adorned the Boulevard der Stars. Little has happened since then, until an automobile accident damaged a star (for Anke Engelke) and some of the red asphalt on March 31, 2018. Currently a total of 105 film and TV personalities are represented by stars on Berlin’s Boulevard of Stars.
