Aprovechando que estoy estos días en Florencia para asistir a Pitti Uomo, mi feria de moda masculina preferida, he aprovechado una tarde y me he puesto hacer turismo por el centro de la ciudad.
No es la primera vez que vengo a esta maravillosa ciudad por lo que los “ 4 imprescindibles” (es decir; el Duomo, la estatua de David, las galerías Uffizi y al famoso puente de Ponte Vecchio) las he disfrutado ya.
Y es que si algo tengo claro es que Florencia es mucho más. Museos únicos, mercados originales, calles y plazas con encanto, heladerías para dejarse llevar. Sin duda esta ciudad italiana tiene un poco de todo para hacer de tu visita algo que nunca olvidarás.
Ya sé que no os gusta pero hay va una pequeña lección de historia antes de empezar a patear Florencia o a comer toda la pasta que sirven en las terrazas del centro de la ciudad: un estudio reciente de economistas italianos reveló que las familias más ricas de Florencia hoy en día son las mismas que en 1427. Esa es sólo una de las maneras en que esta increíble ciudad no ha cambiado en cientos de años; el horizonte sigue dominado por la cúpula de Santa María del Fiore, los mejores hoteles son antiguas villas, los museos están repletos de arte renacentista de fama mundial producido prácticamente a la vuelta de la esquina, y los turistas que han estado viniendo aquí desde el siglo XVIII superan en número a los florentinos todos los veranos -aunque en estos días, tienden a ser más un "viaje en autocar" que un gran tour.
Pero Florencia no es un parque temático del Renacimiento; es una ciudad viva, con mucho para seducirte, incluso si piensas en Miguel Ángel principalmente como una Tortuga Ninja.
As I am in Florence to attend Pitti Uomo, my favourite men's fashion fair, I took an afternoon off to do some tourism in the city centre.
It's not the first time I've come to this wonderful city so the "4 must-see" (i.e. the Duomo, the statue of David, the Uffizi galleries and the famous Ponte Vecchio bridge) I've already enjoyed them.
But there is so much more to Florence: from under-the-radar museums to shopping destinations that double as historical sites, markets and one of the oldest gelato shops in town, this Italian city will entice all sorts of visitors.
A bit of a history lesson before you start paddling on the Arno or eating all the pasta served at the food court smack-dab in the middle of the city centre: a recent study by Italian economists revealed that the richest families in Florence today are the same as they were in 1427. That’s just one of the ways that this incredible city hasn’t changed in hundreds of years: the skyline is still dominated by the gobsmacking fifteenth-century dome of Santa Maria del Fiore, the best hotels are former villas, the museums are packed with world-famous Renaissance art produced virtually around the corner, and the tourists who’ve been coming here since the eighteenth century outnumber Florentines every summer—though, these days, they tend to be more ‘Coach Trip’ than Grand Tour. But Florence isn’t a Renaissance theme park: it’s a living city, with plenty to seduce you even if you think of Michelangelo primarily as a Ninja Turtle.
¿Os cuento lo que hice? Pues disfruté de un maravilloso brunch en el nuevo restaurante Floret en la terraza de Luisa Via Roma y de una comida estupenda en la Trattoria Sergio Gozzi con mis amigos (pide la frita de polpette, confía en mí).
Me tomé una cerveza artesanal (Archea, se llamaba) en el nuevo gastropub Pint of View en Santo Spirito y un cóctel de ginebra con jengibre en Manifattura. Si quieres cócteles originales con nombres imposibles vete al Mad Souls & Spirits.Te encantará.
Y para acabar la tarde me fui dando un paseo al Palazzo Vecchio para disfrutar de uno de mis museos favoritos en Florencia y desde allí hasta la torre de Arnolfo donde disfruté de una de las mejores vistas de la ciudad.
Do you want to know what I did? I ate brunch at the new Floret terrace restaurant in Luisa Via Roma on the weekend and grabbing a cheeky lunch at Trattoria Sergio Gozzi with friends (order the polpette fritte, trust me).
I enjoyed a craft beer by Archea at new gastropub Pint of View in Santo Spirito or a gin-ginger fusion at Manifattura. Look for creative concoctions with hilarious descriptions by two of the city’s best bartenders at Mad Souls & Spirits.
I stopped by.. Palazzo Vecchio for a walk in one of my favorite museums in Florence, the civic seat of the city throughout history, and up to Arnolfo’s tower for one of the best views in town.
