Ya tenía ganas de conocer la nueva librería de Taschen. Es la única en España de la prestigiosa editorial y ha abierto a principios de este verano en lo que antes fue la histórica mercería Santa Rita (Barquillo 30), un local que durante poco tiempo también albergó una boutique de moda.
Es una suerte tener en Madrid una de las 13 librerías de Taschen en el mundo y poder ver de cerca los volúmenes que antes sólo podíamos comprar online o en grandes librerías. Sus instalaciones también te sorprenderá por su cuidado y sofisticado diseño y por su zona dedicada a las ediciones de coleccionista; más que libros, auténticas obras de arte.
Además de poder disfrutar de las múltiples colecciones, Taschen Store Madrid también ofrece un espacio de lectura y disfrute para cualquiera que quiera ojear alguna de sus obras en ese mismo instante.
Por cierto, cuando vayais a la librería, y antes de entrar, detenéos en el escaparate a ver el gigantesco y colorido libro que reposa sobre un atril dorado. Se trata de Murales del Tíbet, una edición limitada firmada por el Dalai Lama que preside cada una de las tiendas Taschen distribuidas por el mundo y que cuesta la friolera de 10.000 euros.
I was looking forward to visiting Taschen's new bookstore. It is the only one in Spain owned by the prestigious publishing house and opened early this summer in what used to be the historic haberdashery Santa Rita (Barquillo 30), a place that for a short time also housed a fashion boutique.
We are lucky to have in Madrid one of the 13 Taschen bookstores in the world and to be able to see up close the volumes that we could only buy online or in large bookstores before. The shop will also surprise you because of its careful and sophisticated design and its area dedicated to collector's editions; more than books, real works of art.
Besides being able to enjoy the multiple collections, Taschen Store Madrid also offers a space for reading and enjoyment for anyone who wants to look at some of its works right away.
By the way, when you go to the bookstore, and before entering, stop at the window to see the gigantic and colorful book that rests on a golden lectern. It is Murals of Tibet, a limited edition signed by the Dalai Lama who chairs each of the Taschen stores around the world and which costs a mind-boggling 10,000 euros.
Una parte del mobiliario que se ha empleado para decorar la tienda forma parte de la colección privada de Benedikt Taschen, el propietario de la librería. Es así como cada rincón adquiere personalidad propia en un equilibro en el que destacan los toques selectivos de color, los diseños contemporáneos y los objetos con vocación histórica.
Otros ejemplos de la delicadeza decorativa: la mesa circular de madera barnizada y los dos sillones con adornos de terciopelo rojo ladrillo de la sala Collectors proceden de Bar Vendôme del Hotel Ritz en París; por su parte, la lámpara de techo Gio Ponti 99.80 es un diseño que data de 1946, elaborado de manera artesanal en cristal con ocho brazos de distintas tonalidades.
Some of the furniture used to design the store's interior is part of Benedikt Taschen's private collection. Thus, each corner has its own personality in a balance where selective touches of color, contemporary designs and objects with historical vocation stand out.
Other examples of the decorative delicacy: the circular table made of varnished wood and the two armchairs with brick red velvet decorations in the Collectors' Room come from the Bar Vendôme of the Ritz Hotel in Paris; while the Gio Ponti 99.80 ceiling lamp is a design that dates back to 1946, handcrafted in glass with eight arms in different shades.
Y si impecable es la decoración de la tienda, el contenido merece mención aparte. Lo que más llama la atención es que es un híbrido entre librería y galería. No solo alberga los títulos convencionales de Taschen, sino que también hay una parte reservada al collector,que es donde tienen las ediciones para coleccionistas. Sí, esas maravillas de edición limitada que vienen firmadas por los artistas. Es un área más exclusiva, en la que los coleccionistas tienen su espacio para venir a conocer las ediciones limitadas y por supuesto, si quieren a comprarlos.
Hay desde ediciones limitadas firmadas por el Dalai Lama hasta el libro Basquiat – 40th Anniversary Edition, una monografía de la obra del pintor neoyorquino con textos de Hans Werner Holzwarthy de Eleanor Nairne, que está disponible en formato compacto por 20 euros. Los títulos más baratos son los pertenecientes a la serie de arte y arquitectura Basic Arty cuestan 10 euros.
As well as the excellent decoration of the store, books deserves a special mention. What is most striking is that it is a hybrid between bookstore and gallery. Not only does it house Taschen's conventional titles, but there is also a part reserved for the collector, which is where they have the collector's editions.
