Es curioso, las construcciones más sobresalientes de toda España caben en una pequeña plaza de los Nuevos Ministerios de Madrid. Y no es que sean pocas, son una selección de 45 proyectos premiados de la última Bienal de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de nuestro país, todo un escaparate para ver por dónde va el diseño real de nuestras ciudades y pueblos.
El conjunto está concebido en zigzag por el artista Jordi Bernadó, quien no solo captura obras aisladas, sino que las intercala con su entorno. El resultado es un gran mapa desplegable de la arquitectura contemporánea que pone en relación el campo de fútbol de A Gandareira (Pontevedra) con bloques de viviendas en Girona o un serpenteante camino de tierra que enlaza dos municipios en la Vega Baja de Toledo. Pretendidos trampantojos que a su vez acaban por integrarse en el paisaje del centro administrativo y financiero de la capital.

It's funny, the most outstanding buildings from all over Spain fit in a small square in Madrid's Nuevos Ministerios district. They are not just a few, but a selection of 45 award-winning projects from the last Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism of our country, a showcase to see where the real design (not the design) of our cities and towns is going.
The set is conceived in zigzag by the artist Jordi Bernadó, who not only captures isolated works, but intersperses them with their surroundings. The result is a large fold-out map of contemporary architecture that connects the soccer field of A Gandareira (Pontevedra) with housing blocks in Girona or a winding dirt road linking two municipalities in the Vega Baja of Toledo. Pretentious trompe l'oeil that eventually end up being integrated into the landscape of the administrative and financial center of the capital.

Cada composición ofrece una reflexión acerca de las capacidades que pueden tener la arquitectura y el urbanismo a la hora de conciliar las dos realidades territoriales: la de una España densa, dinámica y poblada, y la de otra con menor densidad, más invariable y deshabitada.
La Bienal de Arquitectura Española y Urbanismo (BEAU) es un certamen nacido en 1991 a iniciativa del Ministerio de Transportes, Movilidad y Agenda Urbana que tiene como objetivo reconocer, premiar y difundir piezas de alta calidad que representan el más diverso horizonte de la arquitectura y el urbanismo español.
La BEAU forma parte del Programa de Promoción, Difusión e Internacionalización de la Arquitectura de la Dirección General de Arquitectura y Agenda Urbana, cuya meta es resaltar la arquitectura española como un referente internacional que combina la identidad cultural, la historia y el arte de su patrimonio con la innovación y la modernidad.
Each composition offers a reflection on the capacities that architecture and urban planning can have when it comes to reconciling the two territorial realities: that of a dense, dynamic and populated Spain, and that of a less dense, more unchanging and uninhabited one.
The Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) is a competition born in 1991 on the initiative of the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda that aims to recognize, reward and disseminate high quality pieces that represent the most diverse horizon of Spanish architecture and urbanism.
The BEAU is part of the Program for the Promotion, Dissemination and Internationalization of Architecture of the Directorate General of Architecture and Urban Agenda, whose goal is to highlight Spanish architecture as an international benchmark that combines cultural identity, history and the art of its heritage with innovation and modernity.
Más allá de las obras galardonadas, esta instalación recoge iniciativas de otras tres categorías: fotógrafos, investigación y proyectos de fin de grado. En esta última brilla Gonzalo Torres, alumno de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, que proyecta la rehabilitación de una emblemática manzana gaditana, recuperando la antigua servidumbre de agua y sol. Un contrato tácito que permitía a los vecinos del bajo tomar el aire en las azoteas y usar el pozo a quienes residían en los pisos de arriba.
La exposición, de acceso libre, podrá visitarse en los jardines de los Nuevos Ministerios hasta el 15 de enero, en horario de 8 a 21h. A partir de esa fecha, la Bienal continuará desarrollando su programa de itinerancias que la llevará,, a lo largo de 2022, a diferentes destinos nacionales e internacionales.
In addition to the award-winning works, this installation includes initiatives in three other categories: photographers, research and end-of-degree projects. Gonzalo Torres, a student at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, shines in the latter, which projects the rehabilitation of an emblematic Cadiz block, recovering the old water and sun easement. An unspoken contract that allowed the neighbors of the first floor to take the air on the roofs and use the well to those who lived on the upper floors.
The exhibition, of free access, can be visited in the gardens of the Nuevos Ministerios until January 15, from 8 am to 9 pm. After that date, the Biennial will continue to develop its touring program that will take it to different national and international destinations throughout 2022.
