Es esta que veis. Se llama Plazuela de San Javier y está en el Madrid de los Austrias o, dicho de otra forma, en pleno centro histórico de la capital. Os reconozco que es, sin duda, mi plaza favorita de la ciudad. Algunas veces he ido andando por allí y me he sentado un buen rato en la escalinata sin saber muy bien qué hacer; sólo estar allí, ver pasar gente y meterme en mi mundo.
Y es que la Plazuela de San Javier es uno de esos minúsculos secretos de Madrid que, si no vas decididamente a su encuentro, es probable que jamás des con él. No te preocupes yo te la enseño.

It is called Plazuela de San Javier and it is located on the Madrid de los Austrias or, in other words, in the historic center of the capital. I garantice you that it is, without a doubt, my favorite place in the city. Sometimes I've been walking around and I've sat for a long time on the steps without really knowing what to do; just be there, watch people go by and get into my world.

En su concentrada belleza se resume, mejor que en ningún otro lugar, la hermosura del Madrid de los Austrias. Callejas que parecen pasillos por su estrechez y calma que se funden, unas con otras, entre desniveles, ecos de pasos e intrigas. El domingo pasado volví a toparme con ella y, de nuevo, me quedé encantado con su discreción y sencillez, con su aura.
Imagino que muchos os estaréis preguntando dónde se ubica esta joyita que ya podemos apreciar en los planos de la ciudad en 1656. Para los que quieran ponerle cara, la encontrarán muy cerquita de la Calle Segovia. De hecho, para dar con ella la mejor manera es seguir el trazado de la Calle del Conde y, de pronto, sin saber casi cómo, notaréis como vuestro campo visual se aumenta y el suelo se extiende.
Será el claro indicativo de que ya estáis en la Plazuela de San Javier, llamada así porque en ella estuvo un edificio de la Compañía de Jesús en cuya fachada estaba pintada una imagen de San Francisco Javier.

Last Sunday I ran into it one more time and, again, I was delighted with its discretion and simplicity, with its aura. I imagine that many of you are wondering where is located this little gem that it can be already appreciated in the plans of the city in 1656. For those who want to find it, they will find it very close to Calle Segovia. In fact, the best way is to follow the route of Calle del Conde and, suddenly, without knowing almost how, you will notice how your visual field increases and the ground extends. It will be the clear indication that you are already in the Plazuela de San Javier, so called like that because it was a building of the Society of Jesus whose facade was painted an image of San Francisco Javier.
A su diminuto perímetro dan a parar tres paredes que por momentos nos abarcan y rodean. Son los muros traseros del que fuese Palacio de Revillagigedo. Aunque si hay una mirada en este lugar de Madrid que nos cautiva es la que da a una fachada roja del Siglo XVI. Primero fue una notable casona y luego pasó a ser el Mesón de San Javier donde, cuenta la leyenda, bebía hasta caerse el famoso bandolero Luis Candelas.
Imagino el trasiego de gentes, de carretas, de caballos en el Madrid del siglo XVI y me quedo como absorto.
Os recomiendo que os acerqueis a ella cualquier día de diario. Su belleza y tranquilidad os cautivará.
In its tiny perimeter they are three walls that really surround and intimidated us. They are the back walls of what used to be Revillagigedo Palace - Although if there is a look in this place of Madrid that captivates us, it is the red façade of the XVI century. First it was a remarkable mansion and later became the Inn of San Javier where, says the legend, drank until fell the famous bandit Luis Candelas.
