Ya sé que me estoy quejando mucho del calor este año, pero no sabéis el sofoco que es esta ciudad en verano. Menos mal que estoy en Nueva York y ,aunque la humedad llegue al 97% un día sí y el otro también, aquí siempre hay cosas que hacer y el calor pasa a un segundo plano.
El otro día me dediqué sólo a pasear y a recorrer espacios emblemáticos de la ciudad. Sé que es difícil elegir porque aquí todo tiene sabor y mucho encanto pero me entró el aire nostálgico y me fui a conocer un poco más de cerca barrios auténticamente neoyorquinos, esos con personalidad propia y que sólo los encuentras en una ciudad como esta. Algunos han aparecido tanto en las películas que parecen que los conocemos de toda la vida.
De todos me quedó con tres; SoHo, Upper West Side y Central Park. ¿Comenzamos?
I know I'm complaining a lot about the heat this year, but you have no idea how hot this city is in summer. Luckily I'm in New York and, although the humidity reaches 97% one day and another, here there are always things to do and the heat and goes to second place.
The other day I enjoy a lot walking and visiting emblematic spaces of the city. I know that it is difficult to choose because everything here has a lot of charming and flavor but I was feeling nostalgic so I went to know a little more closely neighborhoods authentically New Yorkers, those with their own personality and you can be found in a city like this. Some of them have shown in movies so many times that they seem very familiar to us.
My selection; SoHo, Upper West Side and Central Park. Should we start?
¿Sabías que el nombre tan cool de SoHo no es otra cosa que la abreviatura de South of Houston? Houston es una calle que cruza de este a oeste, justo por debajo del área donde las calles empiezan a funcionar con números en vez de con letras. Y claro, el SoHo está situado al sur de esta calle. A principios del siglo XIX se desarrolló una gran industria textil en esta zona, lo que explica los robustos edificios industriales.
El SoHo no ha sido siempre un buen barrio, pero a partir de los años 60 se convirtió en lo que es hoy en día: una zona artística, creativa y fabulosa en la que puedes encontrarte estupendas boutiques, restaurantes y galerías de arte. Muchas marcas están aquí, así como algunas tiendas de muebles exclusivos. El vecindario se usa mucho como ubicación de películas y espectáculos, así que no te sorprendas si la calle está cortada por un rodaje.
Hay muchos sitios donde hacer una parada y puedes encontrar la mejor librería de Nueva York, McNally Jackson, donde sirven el mejor cappuccino y los mejores bollos que probarás en Nueva York.
¿Te gustan las hamburguesas? ¡Entonces ya tienes una buena razón para visitar el SoHo! El Mercer Hotel sirve una de las mejores hamburguesas que he probado en Nueva York, y sus cócteles también son buenos.
Soho, NYC is a shopping enclave full of high-end boutiques and buzzworthy pop-up shops, as well as a sea of street vendors touting designer knockoffs in the form of sunglasses, handbags and scarves. Just make sure to save some change—and your phone battery—so you can grab coffee and a pastry from one of the many Instagrammable cafes and eateries packed into the downtown nabe.
But don’t write off Soho as a mere urban shopping mall. Though many of the art galleries that made Soho New York a contemporary-art hot spot in the 1970s and ’80s decamped to Chelsea and the Lower East Side, some excellent art spaces remain. Walk along the cobblestone streets and find great New York restaurants, bars and things to do in this downtown neighborhood.
it is located west of Little Italy and bounded by Houston Street, West Broadway and Lafayette Street. SoHo (acronym for South Houston) is one of the most popular neighborhoods of New York City as you may know. The nearby neighborhoods are Little Italy to the east, TriBeCa to the south and West Village to the north. To the west is the Hudson River. How to go? just take the subway or walk a little.
Después del SoHo aproveché la tarde y me puse a recorrer sitios románticos de la ciudad, esos con “charme" ( Nueva York es un sitio perfecto para eso) Si quieres hacerlo tú también te recomiendo que cojas el metro y te bajes en Columbus Circus para sumergirte en un recorrido que te va a llenar de melancolía. Te adentrarás en el Upper West Side, uno de los barrios con más personalidad de la ciudad.
Toda esta zona esta llena de edificios y lugares emblemáticos que te sonarán por las películas de Hollywood. Desde el emblemático Hotel Plaza donde se rodaron maravillosas escenas de Funny Girl, Sabrina, Cocodrilo Dundee o Cowboy de Medianoche, pasando por Central Park y el edificio Dakota donde asesinaron a John Lennon y tuvo lugar el tumultuoso rodaje de La Semilla del Diablo hasta llegar a uno de los rincones más bonitos de Nueva York; la esquina de la joyería Tiffany el lugar preferido por Audrey Hepburn en Desayuno con Diamantes.
AfterSoHo I spent my afternoon seeing romantic places in the city, those with "charme" (New York is a perfect place for that). If you want to do it, just take the subway and get off at Columbus Circus in order to immerse yourself in a journey that will fill you up with melancholy.You will enter the Upper West Side, one of the neighborhoods with more personality of the city.
This whole area is full of buildings and emblematic places that will sound familiar to you by Hollywood movies. First the emblematic Hotel Plaza where wonderful scenes of Funny Girl, Sabrina, Crocodile Dundee or Midnight Cowboy were filmed, second Central Park and the Dakota building where John Lennon was murdered and the tumultuous shooting of The Devil Seed took place and finally one of the most beautiful corners of New York; Tiffany's jewelry corner where Audrey Hepburn took her most famous Breakfast in the world.
¿Os ha gustado mi recorrido? Nueva York es tan grande que puedes hacer miles de rutas todas llenas de encanto. Eso sí, te recomiendo que las planifiques porque las distancias son considerables.
La mía acabó pasada por agua. Y es que, no lo parece, pero al final de la jornada me cayó una tromba de agua tan fuerte que tuve que refugiarme mas de una hora en un supermercado cerca de Columbus Circus para regresar a Chelsea, el barrio donde estoy viviendo estas semanas.

Did you enjoy my tour? Oh well, New York City is so big that you can make thousands of routes, and all of them are full of charm. Of course, I recommend you plan it carefully in advance because the distances are considerable.
Mine ended up through water. I know it does not look like that, but at the end of the day a waterspout fell over the city so strongly that I had to take refuge for more than an hour in a supermarket near Columbus Circus to return to Chelsea, the neighborhood where I am living these weeks.
