Chicos, llegó la tan temida fiesta de Navidad de empresa y otra vez la gran pregunta: ¿Qué ponerse? La mayoría de estas cenas o comidas de empresa se parecen a la película "Los últimos días de Roma": cualquier cosa puede pasar. Si a eso le añadimos la fiebre del trabajo a tiempo completo y un departamento de operaciones enloquecido que aprovecha al máximo la barra libre, la fiesta se convierte en una auténtica Pompeya. Ahora bien, eso no significa que el atuendo de tu fiesta de Navidad de empresa tenga que ser como si fuera tu noche favorita del año. Sólo tienes que vestir bien; es decir poco esfuerzo y mucho rendimiento.
Cosa que es más fácil decir que hacer. Tampoco hay una respuesta fija para dar en el clavo con tu atuendo. Pero para que tengas una idea aproximada de cómo vestirte para esa "deseada" fiesta que está a la vuelta de la esquina (algunas empresas incluso celebran las suyas en noviembre), hemos esculpido algunos conjuntos que son fáciles y eficaces sin que parezca que te has esforzado demasiado.
Most office Christmas parties are quite ‘last days of Rome’. Factor in the cabin fever of WFH and a crazed ops department that take full advantage of the free bar, and this one is set to be positively Pompeiian. But that shouldn't mean your work Christmas party outfit needs to be like it's your favourite night of the year. You just have to dress good: low effort, high yield.
Which is easier said than done. There's also no set answer for nailing your work Christmas party outfit.
But to give you a rough idea of how to get dressed for the office Christmas party, which is just around the corner (some companies even throw theirs in November), we've carved out some fits that are easy and effective without looking like you've made too much effort.
1. La fiesta de la oficina, EN la oficina
Los directivos quieren que te diviertas. Pero no demasiado. Así que este año RRHH se complace en anunciar que todo tu duro trabajo en la oficina será agradecido con unas copas... en la oficina. ¡Gracias, señores de la empresa, gracias, gracias!
La clave está en interpretar la situación. Si, en el día a día, tú y tus compañeros os esforzáis muy poco en vuestro aspecto -más allá de llevar un traje de trabajo normal y corriente-, entonces conviene que tu traje de fiesta sea sencillo. Opta por una versión más sofisticada del traje que llevas a diario. Si llevas un traje azul, una camisa blanca y a veces una corbata, opta por un traje a medida, mocasines y sin corbata. Es un pequeño cambio que tendrá un gran impacto, sobre todo porque el traje se ajustará bien a tu cuerpo y siempre hay un susurro de "¿lo dejamos y nos vamos al pub con gente que nos cae bien?

The key is to read the room. If, day to day, you and your colleagues make very little effort with the way you look – beyond wearing a regular work suit – then you’ll want to keep your party outfit simple. Opt for an elevated version of the outfit you wear each day. So if it's a blue suit, white shirt, and sometimes a tie, go tailored, loafers and sans tie. It's a small alteration that'll have a big impact, largely because your suit will fit your frame properly and there's always a whisper of “shall we sack this off and go to the pub with people we actually like?” in a loafer.
2. La cena de cuatro platos

If your office puts some money behind your Christmas party and you have a big lunch or dinner with clients present, then you really need to make a bit of an effort. Your job is on the line, OK!
The key is to play with fabrics and to pep-up the regular items you wear day-to-day. That doesn't mean you have to turn up like you're in the first-class smoking lounge on the Titanic. But it does mean you can elect for punchier colours, a louche lounge suit and maybe a big long overcoat that makes you feel all important and '90s Wall Street, or a hotelier in a Wes Anderson film.
3. La fiesta en el bar después del trabajo
Si te vas a tomar unas cañas después del trabajo, no tienes que preocuparte demasiado por tu atuendo. Para las fiestas, lo mejor es vestirse de manera informal. Apuesta por las prendas de punto. Usa ropa de calle. Ponte unas zapatillas deportivas que dejen claro a tus colegas que eres bastante guay más allá de esas cuatro paredes. Vive libre, amigo.
If you’re heading for a few/a tank of swift halves post-work, you don’t need to worry too much about your outfit. Coming at festive dressing laterally is the way to think. Go knitwear. Go streetwear. Bang on the pair of trainers that make it clear to your colleagues that you're actually pretty cool beyond those four walls. Live free, friend.
4. El pequeño almuerzo inicial
¿Un menú especial para la comida? No tiene nada de malo. Si trabajas para una pequeña start-up y vas a un almuerzo discreto con todo tu equipo, la forma de vestir es elegante. Pero sólo un poco. Lo más probable es que paséis la mayor parte del día juntos vistiendo vaqueros, sudaderas y zapatillas deportivas. En este caso, ponte una chaqueta de estilo clásico de edición limitada que tenga cuerpo, pero sin la rigidez habitual, o un jersey de cuello alto si quieres ir aún más elegante.
Special lunch menu? Nothing wrong with that. If you work for a minor start-up and you’re heading for a lowkey lunch with your entire team, the way to dress is to dress up. But just a little bit. The likelihood is that you’ll spend most of your days together wearing jeans, sweatshirts and trainers. In this instance, throw on the sort of limited edition worker jacket that has structure, but without the usual stuffiness, or go for a roll-neck if you want to go even sharper.
5. Con todo el personal de la empresa
Lo más probable, en este caso, es que nadie vea lo que llevas puesto y también que te den un código de vestimenta al que ceñirte. Si dice "fiesta", ponte un esmoquin con cuello vuelto negro. Si pone "corbata negra", lleva CORBATA NEGRA DE VERDAD. Si pone "festivo", vuelve a la vestimenta anterior. Un esmoquin clásico de lana, con cuello alto o bajo, debería servirte para cualquier eventualidad. Eso sí, no lleves esmoquin si el código de vestimenta es "informal", porque parecerás un fan loco de James Bond. O el portero.
The likelihood is, in this instance, that no one is going to see what you’re wearing and also that you’ll be given a dress code to adhere to. If it says “party”, wear a tux with a black rollneck. If it reads “black tie”, wear ACTUAL BLACK TIE. If it reads “festive”, revert to the former outfit. A classic wool tuxedo worn up or down should see you through any eventuality. Just don't wear a tux if the dress code reads “casual”, because you’ll like a mad James Bond fan. Or the bouncer.
6. La fiesta "temática
Dios, te damos nuestro pésame. En el caso de una lamentable fiesta "temática", ignórala por completo porque, en estos tiempos festivos, la Navidad es el único tema que debería importar.
Ponte lo que quieras. Asegúrate de que no sea un jersey navideño. Y si lo es, al menos dona algo de dinero a la caridad y bebe más de la cuenta. Pronto acabará.
Christ, you have our sympathy. In the instance of a woeful ‘themed’ party, just ignore it altogether because, in these festive times, Christmas is the only theme that should matter.
Wear what you like. Make sure it's not a Christmas jumper. And if it is, at least donate some money to charity on its behalf, and proceed to drink more than your fair share of the free red. It'll be over soon.
7. La fiesta basada en actividades
Algunas empresas intentan convertir la fiesta de Navidad del trabajo en una actividad de unión, sin demasiados chupitos de sambuca. Por ejemplo, una tarde en la bolera. O un día en uno de esos centros al aire libre donde los adultos tienen licencia gratuita para columpiarse de cuerdas a 15 metros de altura. Lo que tienes que hacer es asegurarte de que tu atuendo para el aire libre no escatime en estilo. Y para eso, usa el lado más atrevido de las cosas. Zapatillas Salomon. Unos pantalones de chándal Adidas de Wales Bonner. Funcional, pero también te dejará como el tío más morboso de la fiesta (y listo para ir al pub después).
Some companies will try and make the work Christmas party into a bonding activity, without too many shots of sambuca. That might mean bowls in Finsbury park. Or an away day at one of those outdoor centres where adults have free licence to swing from ropes at 50ft. What you wanna do, is make sure you've got an outdoorsy outfit that doesn't skimp on style. And so for that, get down with the gorpier side of things. Salomon sneakers. Some of those sick Wales Bonner Adidas tracksuit bottoms. Functional, but will also leave you looking like the sickest guy at the party (and ready for the pub after).
8. La gran noche
Es una noche de fiesta como las que pasas con tus amigos el fin de semana, pero un jueves para que todo el mundo no se emborrache demasiado y se lleve la tarjeta del jefe de la empresa (y siga trabajando el viernes). Sé sensato. Vístete de negro. No te decantes por un jersey navideño: nunca sabes con quién te vas a cruzar en el mundo. El negro siempre es una buena opción. Y disimulará cualquier bebida que el descuidado Martín del departamento de cuentas te derrame encima a las 23.30.
It's a night out like you have with your mates on the weekend, but on a Thursday so everyone can't get too drunk and rinse the company boss's card (and still work on the Friday). Go sensible. Wear black. Don't go for a Christmas jumper – you never know who you're going to run into out there in the world. Black is always a good option. And will disguise any drinks sloppy Martin from accounts will spill on you come 11.30pm.
