Los zapatos de verano son diferentes a los de invierno por una sencilla razón: hace más calor y, como otras partes del cuerpo, los pies transpiran más, por lo que no tendría sentido abrigarlos más haciendo que suden y que, además, el zapato coja olor. ¿Te parecen pocas razones? Sin embargo, como sucede con otras prendas con la subida de las temperaturas, la duda está en cómo adaptarse a ellas sin perder la dignidad, porque por mucho calor que haga, no vas a dejar de ir a la oficina, salir de cena o a pasearte los fines de semana. ¿Con qué te calzas entonces? Cinco son los básicos del zapatero que se repiten cada año, y cada uno se adapta a una ocasión (o varias) sin necesidad de quedarse en casa porque no tienes qué ponerte.
Summer may be the season most closely associated with relaxation, but that doesn’t mean your feet should fall victim to lazy styling. While a box-fresh pair of slick white trainers will tend to make the cut in most situations, in no circumstances should you think that what’s touching the ground doesn’t matter the moment the mercury rises above 20.
So, for those among you who like to strut smoothly through summer, here, we’ve selected plenty of the more fashion-forward of footwear options that you can wear throughout the warmer months without compromising your aesthetic.
Zapatillas
Empecemos por el básico más básicos de los últimos años: las sneakers. Las zapatillas de corte retro, especialmente las abotinadas, vuelven a ser una de las opciones predilectas de las pasarelas y de los sneakerheads. Los clásicos modelos en lona son perfectos para el verano, además de que son sencillos de combinar y la suela suele ser menos voluminosa. Las lonas de algodón son transpirables (no como la piel), ligeras y perfectas para el verano, porque llevaremos los pies más frescos.
Let's start with the most basic essential of the last few years: sneakers. The retro sneakers, especially the buttoned ones, are once again one of the favorite choices of the catwalks and sneakerheads. Classic canvas models are perfect for summer, plus they are easy to match and the sole is usually less bulky. Cotton canvas is breathable (not like leather), lightweight and perfect for summer, because our feet will be cooler.
Mocasines
Según las tendencias de este y del próximo año, los mocasines son las nuevas zapatillas. En verano, tanto para los eventos más formales como para los informales, olvida de los zapatos de cordones o de hebilla, son más cerrados y se ajustarán mucho al pie. Sustitúyelos por mocasines, bien de piel o de ante. Su pala (la parte de arriba) es más baja y dará más libertad al pie. Los que más verás serán los beefroll o los penny.
According to this and next year's trends, loafers are the new sneakers. In summer, both for more formal and informal events, forget about lace-up or buckle shoes, they are more closed and will be too tight to the foot. Replace them with loafers, either leather or suede. Their vamp (the upper part) is lower and will give more freedom to the foot. The ones you will see the most are the beefroll or penny loafers.
Náuticos
Aquel zapato que se inventó un perro –mejor dicho, ideados por el magnate americano Paul Sperry observando las almohadillas de las patas de su cocker spaniel Prince–, ha sobrevivido a casi un siglo de vida reinventándose una y otra vez. Alpargatas
En España hemos calzado alpargatas de toda la vida, de hecho, nuestro país es una gran potencia creando estas suelas de esparto. Tanto es así que las grandes firmas de lujo viajan a nuestro país para fabricar sus modelos para el verano. Desde las sencillas con dos piezas de lona a los modelos más sofisticados. Las alpargatas son para el verano, pero siempre que no haya agua de por medio, o te arriesgas a que el esparto se hinche y se deforme.

Sandalias / chanclas
Aquí entramos en terreno movedizo. Si no tienes antes los pies adecentados, ni te plantees dejarlos al aire. Unas uñas mal arregladas, un talón agrietado –conocido también como “de elefante”– o unas plantas llenas de callosidades no son de gusto de nadie. Una vez hayas cumplido con el higiénico cometido, puedes proceder a elegir tus sandalias. Esta temporada encontrarás de tiras de cuero (las más sofisticadas), de inspiración trekingcon bandas de velcro (las de tendencia), sin olvidar las de pala o las flip-flops de dedo (la mejor opción para la playa o piscina).
This is a tricky area. If your feet have not been groomed beforehand, don't even consider leaving them out in the open. Badly manicured nails, a cracked heel -also known as "elephant heel"- or calloused soles are not to anyone's liking. Once you have fulfilled the hygienic task, you can proceed to choose your sandals. This season you will find leather straps (the most sophisticated), trekking-inspired sandals with Velcro straps (the trendiest), without forgetting the flip-flops (the best option for the beach or pool).
